The Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Thursday night announced the arrests of Gregory and Travis McMichael in the shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery following a storm of public outcry after video of Arbery’s death was made public.
The father and son were both charged with murder and aggravated assault, GBI said in a statement. They will be booked into the Glynn County Jail, according to the bureau. GBI earlier Thursday asked for patience in its investigation, which began Wednesday.
Before GBI began its investigation into Arbery’s death, the Glynn County Police Department contacted the bureau to “investigate allegations of threats against GCPD and individuals involved in the active investigation,” the bureau said in Thursday’s statement.
GBI added the investigation into Arbery’s death remains “active and ongoing.” The case is being investigated with District Attorney Tom Durden, who on Tuesday formally asked the bureau to investigate the death of Arbery.
Attorneys for Arbery’s family believe he was the victim of racial profiling after he was chased down while jogging and shot by two white men in a southern Georgia neighborhood as a third white man recorded the killing on video.
Arbery, 25, was shot and killed Feb. 23. Video of the incident has been widely shared on social media.
Gregory McMichael, a 64-year-old former police officer, and his adult son, Travis, 34, were captured on the video, which was taken by Travis’ neighbor, William Bryan.

That is correct.
This is a tragic loss of human life. As it would have been no matter what the racial make up of all involved. The fact it only matters to some people when it can be used to fit a certain narrative indicates a total lack of sincerity.
Why on Earth did the Black “jogger” grab the long gun? Had it already been fired? Makes no sense unless you have a death wish.
And that could explain why charges weren’t filed before - good ol’ boys club at work.

Now don’t go putting words in my mouth that I didn’t say. I merely suggested that with 3 shots fired it isn’t likely that it was accidental. I could tell you assumed there was only one shot fired. I will say though, that Unless the dude had a gun, those boys are in big trouble, and even they didn’t say he did.
These two guys deserve their due process and not being tried in the court of public opinion by self loathing white idiots.
Nobody is trying him in the court of public opinion. They are just expressing their own opinions. And what they've said is a lot less idiotic than what you posted. If you want to discuss the case, talk about the facts, not about your own stereotypes.

The media has edited the video. Watch the whole thing and listen. I do not hear a shotgun blast as the two wrestle for the gun. If he got shot by a shot gun he wouldn’t run a few steps and fall down. Looks to me that guy in back of truck shots him with a hand gun as the wrestle for the shot gun.

you are aware, I’m sure, that the dad/son combo forced the confrontation by tracking this individual down in their cars, with the son hopping out with drawn firearm; I’m sure you’re equally aware that this individual did absolutely nothing to the dynamic duo to warrant being confronted with a drawn firearm...put yourself in the victim’s place, and then imagine what your response would be if someone came along and said ‘sure looks like self defense to me...’

We can debate whether or not the shooting was justified, and I’ve been doing that for the past day, but the fact is that an innocent, unarmed man is dead. This should be treated as a crime and a court should determine guilt or innocence.
And yet you have no problem passing judgement on the victim without due process. Interesting.
If you are confronted by two armed men with no avenue of escape don't you fight for your life? Or do you accidentally kill yourself by sitting there waiting for him to shoot you? Three times? With a shotgun?
And yet there is no report of a burglary and the Glynn County Sheriff had no reports of any burglaries in that subdivision for the entire year.
Fact is the black man went for the gun.
