MSNBC contributor Anand Giridharadas said on Wednesday because Americans are so obsessed with the idea of freedom, it leaves the country vulnerable to outside threats like climate change and pandemics. He added government is not the biggest threat to our liberties.
Giridharadas said the ongoing Wuhan coronavirus pandemic and the government's response will lead to Americans wanting to reevaluate its relationship with the state and federal government.
"There is a primordial American tradition going back to the Founders of being freedom obsessed, even though we are a country founded on slavery and genocide, being freedom obsessed to the point that were always so afraid of the government coming for us that were blind to other types of threats, whether its a virus, whether its bank malfeasance, climate change, what have you," Giridharadas said on "Morning Joe."

we may be freedom obsessed, but we will let something fly free when those who are oppression obsessed push us to our limits.
So says someone from a culture full of tyrannical monarchies and tribe/clan attitudes.
Judging by his name he is not from the USA. If he feels unsafe due to the ‘excessive’ freedom here then he is free to move to whatever totalitarian hell he wants. I’m sure North Korea would welcome him with open arms. They had a very effective solution to prevent the spread of the virus....shoot everyone who gets it.
Too many people from India have a hard on for socialism and marxism. I get that this guy was born here but obviously his family doesn’t understand American culture.
If this wasn’t bizarro world of MSN, the host would have bitch slapped Giridharadas for insulting our country, our citizens and all those who gave their lives for our freedom.
Kindly suggest Giridharadas find a home country that doesn’t offend him.
He clearly doe not understand America.
Or Americans.
WE are the sovereign.
WE LOAN our power to the government.
The consent of the governed can be revoked.
Heh, climate change models get an F- just as the pandemic spread models do.
There are N arguments about the untrustworthyness of the climate change clown show, and ‘twould appear that there are M arguments about the same untrustworthiness with pandemic models (where M ~ N).
Perhaps MSNBC could try getting some technically able folks there to sit in FRONT of the cameras.
Good grief, what a insane social justice warrior.
Just when you think MSNBC couldn’t sink any lower, you get this.
“Live free or die”
He should drop us a post card when he finds that place better than here.
Son of two foreigners says what?
Anand Giridharadas is correct on several points.
1) Americans are obsessed with freedom. I now I am. So foreigners who don’t like freedom: Don’t come to the USA. We are genocidal freedom-lovers who prefer to live or die as individuals, not as subjects or part of a collective organism. Stay home and enjoy the oppression you crave.
2) The coronavirus episode will leave Americans questioning the role of government. Bingo. Government failed to protect us from importation of foreign disease, then destroyed the economy by diktat, while in some places deliberately sending infected persons into nursing homes so many more could die. Elements of government even outlawed an obvious, cheap, treatment for political purposes. The multi-trillion dollar bailout of government mistakes will lower the standard of living for all for decades. I’m certainly rethinking the role of government, and how to reduce it.
Anand Giridharadas another socialist who needs to be sterilized!
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber barons cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Giridharadas said the ongoing Wuhan coronavirus pandemic and the government's response will lead to Americans wanting to reevaluate its relationship with the state and federal government.
Yeah, it already has. And the partisan media-fueled hysteria finished off any love anyone had left for the media, so, kudos.
Media love left town during VN war and wally concrete.
The Marxist Democrats speak:
AOCs lurch into green insanity was promptly deleted. But it was only the latest such blast from the young face of the Marxist wing of the Democratic Party, which has taken over its host. Last Wednesday, on the new Vice TV talk show Seat at the Table featuring author Anand Giridharadas, AOC urged people to stay unemployed even after the lockdowns end. When we talk about this idea of reopening society you know, only in America does the president when the president tweets about liberation does he mean go back to work, she said. When we have this discussion about going back or reopening, I think a lot of people should just say no were not going back to that.
vague threats cancel freedom? I don’t think so...
