The Federal Communications Commission has fined Sinclair Broadcast Group $48 million the largest financial penalty in the FCCs 86-year history as part of an agreement to resolve several investigations into the companys alleged practices.
In addition to paying the record fine, the Maryland TV station group also agreed to adhere to a strict compliance plan. In exchange, the government will halt three investigations into Sinclairs practices. One of the investigations was seeking to determine whether Sinclair negotiated in good faith with pay-TV providers. Another looked at Sinclairs failure to properly disclose to viewers the sponsor of some of its programming.
In 2017, the FCC criticized Sinclair for running promotions that appeared within its newscasts without any disclaimers. The agency levied a $13.4-million fine against Sinclair that year for failing to identify sponsored content that aired on its TV stations. That fine was included in the new settlement.
The fine imposed on Sinclair on Wednesday was double the amount paid by Univision Communications in 2007 to resolve a complaint about running childrens soap operas instead of educational programming.

FCC slaps Sinclair Broadcast with a record $48-million fine for unacceptable conduct
Wow. God knows what they’d fine me for with the conduct in my basement.
failure to properly disclose to viewers the sponsor of some of its programming
Yet CNN is still broadcasting
CNN is on cable and outside of the FCCs jurisdiction.
Hey! Dont broadcast that info! LOL
Sinclair—dinosaur media.
(OK, I’m of the vintage to remember the Sinclair gasoline stations with the brontosaurus logo!)

...
Childrens soap operas?
Remember when Sinclair was supposed to show the movie “Stolen Honor” but bent over due to lefty pressure? They ended up showing a special which mentioned the movie but the show ended up as slightly favorable to John f’n Kerry. I called it “Stolen Hour.” Funny postscript to this was the libs still blamed Sinclair as if they actually aired “Stolen Honor.” Was a classic lesson of how kowtowing to the libs can get one nothing.
Sinclair own several “The CW” stations which runs plenty of teen dramas.
I think theyre called cartoons.
” failure to properly disclose to viewers the sponsor of some of its programming.”
Is that Limbaugh’s stealth commercial technique?
I had an Uncle in Missouri who had a Sinclair station.
Are they gone? The gas stations I mean, I realize that the dinosaurs are gone. /s
Couldn’t tell you when I last saw one operating in southcentral PA.
1970? Before the Arab oil embargo for sure.
I suppose it’s difficult to prove that a particular news story is actually a commercial in disguise?
