At odds with the statments of President Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, White House coronavirus task force member Dr. Anthony Fauci said in an interview he believes the coronavirus did not originate in a lab in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
"If you look at the evolution of the virus in bats and what’s out there now, [the scientific evidence] is very, very strongly leaning toward this could not have been artificially or deliberately manipulated," Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told National Geographic magazine.
“Everything about the stepwise evolution over time strongly indicates that [this virus] evolved in nature and then jumped species,” he said.
Fauci said he also does not believe "an alternate theory — that someone found the coronavirus in the wild, brought it to a lab, and then it accidentally escaped."
In contrast, Trump said April 30 he's seen convincing evidence the virus originated at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. And on Sunday, Pompeo told ABC News there's "enormous evidence" the pandemic blamed for the deaths of more than 250,000 people worldwide came from the lab.

On Tuesday, Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., affirmed Trump and Pompeo in an interview Tuesday with Fox News host Sandra Smith, insisting there is no evidence the virus originated in a seafood market in Wuhan.
"Now, all the evidence pointing to those labs -- the fact that they use bats, that they research coronaviruses, that they have a history of bad safety practices, that the original person infected with the virus had no contact with the [seafood] market -- all of that is circumstantial evidence to be sure," he said.
"But, in intelligence questions, we rarely get direct or conclusive evidence," he pointed out. "So, I agree that all of the evidence -- albeit circumstantial -- points directly at those labs."

Fauci funded the lab, of course he doesn’t want it getting out that he in effect paid for this virus.

FWIW, I heard on the radio this morning that President Trump is considering her as a replacement for Alex Azar, Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Reminds me of a funny “Herman” cartoon I saw a long time ago. A guy is standing in front of his doctor with a knife stuck squarely in the middle of his back. The doctor is holding up an x-ray and says, “According to this it’s in your left ear.”
If you put in "lab origins of Covid-19" and "China in Focus" on You-Tube, you could probably find it . . . unless You-Tube has kow-towed and taken it down.
The evidence presented by the Australian reporter in this broadcast was pretty damning.
Fauci could be just half right, and either unknowingly or knowingly defending a Chinese lie.
The half truth? Yes, the virus, as Fauci said “jumped species”.
The Chinese lie? It happened in the wild, naturally.
No, it happened in the Wuhan lab where they were experimenting on corona viruses, including corona viruses from different animal sources and more than one bat species, and doing testing with the viruses including genetic engineering to see how they “might” become more infectious to humans.
If it jumped species in nature, they in the lab knew it and ran faulty lab security and let it out. If it jumped species by their experimentation, again they ran faulty lab security and let it out.
Fauci is one way or the other covering for the lab in Wuhan.

Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases gave $7.4 million to the Wuhan Institute of Virology lab.
These are answers to two different questions. The virus could have originated at the lab, but not be the result of human manipulation. Fauci is supposed to be smart. Why is he putting words into POTUS’ and Pompeo’s mouth. I wonder...
It's not going to be popular here, but Azar might actually be one of the good guys, and maybe should have been listened to sooner. I recently read a report put out by HHS/FEMA which had the most accurate model of any I've seen to date.
Do your own research on Alex Azar, and about the push back he received even before the first US deaths in February concerning his attempts to warn the president about the Rona virus.
