Pritzker rolled out a five-phase regional plan for reopening the state.
The Democratic governor said his Restore Illinois blueprint considered advice from members of both parties across Illinois. Some Downstate elected officials have bristled at the governors restrictions, arguing that while they may be necessary in the metro areas they may not be in rural areas. The governor also said he conferred with lawmakers representing African American and Latino communities disproportionately affected by the virus.
Prtizker said the plan is based on a scientific approach, and cautioned, Heres the truth, and I dont like it any more than you do, until we have a vaccine or an effective treatment or enough widespread immunity that new cases fail to materialize, the option of returning to normalcy doesnt exist. That means we have to learn to live with COVID-19 until it can be vanquished.
The plan divides the state into four regions, which could enter different phases of reopening at different times. The fifth and final phase Illinois restored wont come until a vaccine or highly effective treatment becomes widely available. Festivals, conventions, and all businesses and schools would reopen.
To varying degrees, the entire state is already in Phase 2 of the plan, labeled flattening, which allows for nonessential retail businesses to reopen for curbside pickup and delivery and for additional outdoor activities like golf and boating to resume under social distancing guidelines. These new rules took effect Friday, Munks and Petrella write.
The earliest a region can move to the third phase is May 29, Pritzker said.

Early betting line has Illinois opening later than the other forty-nine states as the pols try to leverage the pandemic for a Federal bailout. There is a shameful lack of leadership in Illinois.
Lying fu#####, 5 PHASE PLAN, WHY NOT A 10 PHASE OR A 25 PHASE PLAN. Destroying the economy is what they are all doing
If tomorrow a democrat was in the white house everything would be open for business no restrictions
That’s Pumpkin heads plan to F-up capitalism.
Golf is about as social distanced as you get. You hit a ball hundreds of yards and then walk around looking for it in fresh outside air. Do we really need permission to play golf? Preposterous!
stall, stall, stall
“maximize the economic devastation”, that seems to be the Democrats’ new motto
We all know the scientists are never wrong and are all in agreement. >s
When anyone says Heres the truth, I always figure the next words to come out of their mouths will be LIES.
Don’t you love it? They trash the economy by shutting everything down, then name their attempt at undoing all that damage as Restore, like they’re riding in on their white horse to save the day. I LOATHE politicians.
Democrats and Science - they believe in TRUTH not FACTS!
What about golf course club houses, locker rooms, restaurants, and bars?
What about rabid gophers?
Putzker is lying! The Illinois GOP Senate Minority Leader said on WBBM that Putzker has not asked the Republicans opinion on anything.
Fred Flintstone just makes up the rules on a daily basis.
Rabies is not part of the national panic of the moment, only the coronavirus. And that may soon have us hunting gophers for food, provided that we keep our social distance.
I assume in Illinois that will have to be bow hunting. Glad I left that state.
Opening up the rural areas of the state before opening the "urban centers" would be considered racist.
How did this turkey get elected ?
Wise men once said,
You gotta fight ...
for your right ...
to paaaaarty!.
... until we have a vaccine or an effective treatment or enough widespread immunity that new cases fail to materialize, the option of returning to normalcy doesnt exist.
Its no longer about flattening the curve, is it.
