Coronavirus lockdowns take grim toll on mental health of Americans
Fox News ^ | May 06 2020 | Alex Berenson

The mental toll of lockdowns appears to be growing as many states enter their seventh week of mandatory stay-at-home orders.

Even people who had no previous symptoms of anxiety or depression regularly report nightmares, panic attacks, and agoraphobia to friends and on social media. Many healthy American adults have not left their homes or apartments since March, apparently terrified by unceasing media coverage even though hospitalization and death data suggest the coronavirus poses low risks to them.

As the gap between those people who are terrified and those with a more complete understanding of the risks of the coronavirus increases, even relationships within families are coming under increasing pressure.

I’ve been a volunteer for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) for 15 years and teach classes for famiies with loved ones who have mental health conditions. I can tell you that people sufferign with mental health conditions are really struggeling right now.

Imagine your mom or dad or yourself in a nursing home and no family to hold your hand. It’s cruel. Look at how nurseries are designed. Isolation is nothing new. Figure it out...so folks can see and communicate with each other.

I always imagine our getting Into a situation like this. It happens when an enemy country no longer can extort our leader. Seems obvious.

I’m always prepped. Psychologically as well. No visitors, no stores, no gas. I have a mission essential job but am prepared financially for that to not be there.

My family is the same. We have movies, books, games. Schoolwork. Good computers.

I run around thinking everyone is like this. But no. A lot of people depend on others, on an idiotic government - our intelligence service is run by anti conservative spies and people depend on them to keep us safe, that is silly- on a week to week paycheck.

Their fake world is crashing. Do they develop a sense of depending on their creator? Dunno. Mental illness takes over first? I don’t get that.

My bet is that it is dems who are having the most trouble mentally since they were having trouble long before the virus.

The nation robbed the young of graduations, marriages, and all kinds of social constructs.

I am seeing lots and lots of chalk-drawn hopscotch boards on the streets and sidewalks as I walk around. I haven't seen them in DECADES.

Many people are responding well, but for those who were already depressed or lonely this is a bad saga. I feel for them.

But a telecommuter with pallets of food and TP who whines about no Kobe beef as they get direct deposit and food delivery, telling us we need to keep the country closed, can go pound sand.

“. I can tell you that people sufferign with mental health conditions are really struggeling right now.”

A relative that happens to be a copper in a very nice Chicago suburb said “there is a big increase in domestic violence in their community. Traffic accidents are down though.”

Scary to think that there are that many Americans with such fragile mental stability. Must be why Joe Dementia even has a following.
