The whole thing must be struck down.
If any portion of it remains the democrats will expand it once they get back in power
So the Administration going before the Supreme Court is not a legal matter. Good to know. And it absolutely the job of the AG to advise Trump in matters going before the court. Nothing says Trump has to accept that advise. But the AG would be remiss if he did not give Trump a full view of the pros and cons of such pleadings.
CNN, c’mon lets get a credible source.
The bull scat from these people could fertilize all of China.
Just reading that in my office stinks up the place.
Only Barr haters could believe that.
It's all or nothing in this particular case. And the states have a very powerful argument that the current law is unconstitutional. I suspect that in June of next year, if not sooner, the whole of Obamacare will be struck down with all the fallout that entails.
As for a plan. I sure would hope Trump and GOP allies have thought this through and have one in place.
One of my coworkers has a favorite expression - Hope is not a strategy. Right now the GOP has nothing, and little evidence that one is being worked on.
Thanks for the information. Barr certainly has a say when it comes to advising Trump on this matter. Trump can tell him to pound sand. It would be good to know the parts Barr feels should not face being struck down at this time.
I would love to know the “parts” that are in dispute? Employer mandate? Pre-existing condition? Insurance company profits? Mandated coverages? The law is so large “parts” could be a piffle or a big deal.
Per the article, Barr was concerned about policy and the election. He is out of his lane.
I suspect sometimes that nothing is what the GOP does best.
No, being concerned about the election is not out of his lane.
But Barr is going beyond the merits t the political considerations - thats not his job.
There is a saying “You would rather be right than happy/” I think many posters fit that. Me, I want to be happy in November. If that means a more prudent approach to getting rid of Obamacare (even if it is right that it should go) so be it.
Like most of the bureaucracy in Washington and Obamacare it needs to be destroyed and started over.
Patching the tire on Obamacare would be just like everything else Washington tries to correct, it will undoubtedly come out worse.
That’s what bureaucrats do. And they will be writing the changes.
One of the main functions of the U.S. Attorney General is to represent the U.S. government in court proceedings.
But is there anything in place for starting over?
They don't. But that's not their fault. The U.S. health care system is completely unsustainable. The "plan" that almost every American wants is to make other people pay for his or her medical bills ... while doing whatever is necessary to avoid paying for EVERYONE ELSE's medical bills.
Candidate Donald Trump's "plan" in 2016 was to give people "better health care that costs less." That's a great plan there. It's like me telling people that they can live in Trump Tower for $500/month.
More than ever, I’m convinced that ‘The Machine’ (Person of Interest) is out there, in a hollowed-out volcano, controlled by some guy with a black patch over one eye.
Absolutely at zero. Fresh paper, fresh eyes and common sense.
No he isnt. Disagreeing with Trump does not make somebody a deep state operative. Barr is right to be concerned. It would be more prudent to have a replacement in place before totally scuttling the act. Bad as it is. The voters perception is more important with the election coming up
Barr has no business making political calculations. He is AG and not POTUS.
Why in the world is Barr wading into this? What does this have to do with his role as AG?
