...This is our window to keep it from establishing, Chris Looney, an entomologist at the Washington State Department of Agriculture, tells the Times. If we cant do it in the next couple of years, it probably cant be done.

FWIW, those dang things scare me way more than WuFlu...
Interesting these waspzillas first showed up in December, supposedly right around the same time as the WuFlu...
THAT is a problem, yes.
The media is, as usual, trying to whip up panic in the bee-phobes. The economic damage to agriculture could be serious, though, if these buggers start eating all of the honey bees.
That is odd as normally wasps hibernate in December.
I read in the paper this morning that they have ordered special reinforced suits, get this, from China.
I wonder if the MST3K folks have done those movies, yet.
Kill em all
Fire ants are still here. I get stung all the time. Can’t avoid or kill them (at least to any extent). I’ve had them cover my legs. Nice painful blisters.
If the ChiComs didn’t cook these critters up in a lab, I’m thinking they’re illegals from Heck.
(only kinda, sorta, half-kidding...)
Also have lots of killer bees (along with the European honey bees). Easy to tell the difference - the killers sting you when you get close to their hives and have sentries flying around. Killed 14 hives that got into my house, and 2 of those were Africanized. I’ve been stung over 25 times at once.
Do the suits from the ChiComs come accidently impregnated with Giant Murder Hornet pheremones?
Bees don’t attack unless provoked or someone is extremely unlucky to disturb them. I learned this the hard way as a kid.
117?
Huh! Learn something new everyday.
I do know this. If you heat a room to over 120 for 30 minutes or so, it kills bed bugs dead. Then you have to spray or clean to get rid of the eggs.
“never shoot a hornet nest.”
Chicken. Here is how you were supposed to do it. You get yerself a long pole, then stick that pole into that nest. When they come down that nest after you, you head right smack straight for your buddies.
After every kid gets the hell stung out of them, they learn their lesson for...OH, about half a day. Then its the same thing all over again.
Now would be a good time to develop an add-on for existing commercial beehives. Because this hornet is so much bigger than honeybees, it should be fairly simple to screen the opening with something bees can get through but the hornets can’t.
It will be a good death match between the murder hornets against our Africanized killer bees.
what could you wrong?
Just coincidence of course that they spmejow arrived here this winter.
Oh, and what were long known as giant Asian hornets are now grtting rebranded as “murder hornets”.
Schrodinger’s wisecrack. The comment was intended both seriously and as “just a joke”, but becomes one or the other only after public reactions are observed.
In with the fearbee
they have 1/4 inch long stingers that go right through beekeeping gear.
