Anxious to spur an economic recovery without risking lives, President Donald Trump on Sunday insisted that you can satisfy both see states gradually lift lockdowns while also protecting people from the coronavirus pandemic that has killed more than 60,000 Americans.
The president, fielding questions from Americans in a virtual town hall from the Lincoln Memorial, acknowledged valid fears on both sides of the issue. Some people are worried about getting sick; others are reeling from lost jobs and livelihoods.
But while Trump increased his projection for the total U.S. death total to 80,000 or 90,000 up by more than 20,000 fatalities from what he had suggested just a few weeks ago he struck a note of urgency to restart the nations economy, declaring we have to reopen our country.
We have to get it back open safely but as quickly as possible, Trump said.

My own governor, Jay “Il Dunce” Inslee.

at this point its up to the idiot governors to open things up....
BS!!! You think his supporters will vote for Biden or stay home????
STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!
The media thinks it can make more money opposing re-opening.
Nuts.
Where in hell you get this cow flop?
Trump has the most loyal supporters of any president in modern U.S. history. Get real.
And when they are not wrong, which is pretty much always,
it can be hard for them to see why that should be their problem. ;-)
Heres a thought: lets introduce a new (to many) conceptpersonal responsibility.
If youre afraid of getting sick, stay home.
Yes, this time the pendulum swung. We hired a CEO instead of a self-obsessed naval gazer.
President Trump is not a politician and he has no interest in becoming one. Hes seen what they can do.
During the election, for a brief moment, some dems were criticizing the future President by way of: But, hes not a professional politician!
That was rather the point.
Tap dancing around doesnt work in business. Only one thing matters *results*.
Nobody gives a rats ass about your *intentions*, or all of the obstacles that got in your way. You either got results or you didnt.
I really think thats what we see in President Trump. And, of course, his basic nature is to urp things out, for which he receives much criticism and why we trust him.
Trump has the most loyal base of any president in recent memory. But base alone will not get him reelected. He needs voters outside his base and his support there will depend in no small part on how this all works out. There is no doubt that calling for a rapid reopening is a risk, but so is staying shut down. If I'm going to roll the dice then I think I'd rather go with the hopeful future like Trump is doing rather than sticking with the fearful present.
Fauci amd Brix speak for Trump. Trump has them on his team.
This why Trump should have gotten rid of them a long time ago.
Wolf is a complete and utter evil fool.
Not smart enough to create and maintain his won set of rules and deceitful enough to keep his precious lockdown going.
Cuomo’s done that already. School board and budget votes statewide have been pushed back to June. And will be mail-in only.
The danger for Trump is that the longer this drags on the more he begins to look like he’s all talk and no action. And that is demoralizing to his base.
He really needs to suck it up and ditch the doctors. The sooner the better.
And the psychotic little emperor of Maryland.

Hogan is holding us hostage until the mega billions roll in from the Feds.
Which he is doing with pushing for states to reopen. I don't know of a single doctor on his team who has said it's a good thing. It's a risk either way, as I said, but if I'm president and I get pilloried for a decision I would rather it was for a decision that was meant to lead to improvement rather than a decision that continued a dismal situation.
Wife and I are fanatical Trump supporters. Despise the democrats. Have watched 99% of his rallies, etc.
Watching that Lincoln Memorial “town hall”, we’re concerned. He doesn’t answer questions, even when we know his administration has the answers. He repeats the same speeches almost without change.
He had questions from normal Americans, I know his reopening plan provides the answers and Pence would hit them out of the park. Instead, Trump wings the answers.
Our conclusion is he is living in a bubble, no one can tell him to adjust his style and focus. This happens to all presidents and the first reelection debate is usually a disastrous wake up call.
I don’t like writing this, my sense is it isn’t hurting him yet, but he needs to work on his approach. I hope he has that ability.
Maybe he can skate with this approach. But I’m sure deep inside, Pence wants to throw the reopening plan at him and say damn it the answers are in here!
He had multiple friendly questions from real Americans about opening schools, making restaurants safe, aid for one-person entrepreneurs, glitches in getting unemployment. He did not answer a single one directly, he winged the answers, even though I know the answers exist in his aid plans, his guidelines, etc.
I’m not talking about any of his usual personality traits like hostility to the press, they’re all fine with me. But he’s not incorporating facts into his statements, and he sounds like he’s avoiding a lot. That’s not what worked the first time around.
The town hall was a dud.
Those were NOT questions from ordinary Americans. For the most part they were carefully selected gotcha questions from Faux News. When I saw the name Martha McCallum attached to this I expected no less.
I agree with your observation that he appears to be in a bubble. He’s been pretty much a captive in the White House since early March. He needs to get out here in flyover country and experience first-hand the vitriol that exists for Tony Fauci.
