“What we are seeing are scenes from a horror movie."
Those words came from Artur Virgilio, the mayor of Manaus, about the coronavirus crisis developing in the middle of the Amazon rainforest in northern Brazil.
The city had a record number of burials in April -- about 100 a day, or triple the average -- forcing authorities to do many en masse in improvised cemeteries.
“We aren’t in a state of emergency. We are in a state of utter disaster, like a country that is at war but has already lost," Virgilio said.
The city's public health system has already collapsed, with 100% of intensive-care beds occupied and hundreds of people left untreated.
Relatives of victims report that burials have been carried out collectively, with some people left not knowing if their loved one was, in fact, buried.
In some cases, corpses were placed on top of each other in graves, according to reports. The official cause of death is often listed as "unknown" or "severe acute respiratory failure," which experts say is contributing to a massive under-count of coronavirus cases.
Between April 21 and April 28, the government reported 118 confirmed coronavirus deaths in Manaus. But in that same week, more than 200 people were buried due without a determined cause of death, in addition to 395 due to respiratory failure or suspected coronavirus.
According to one projection, the number of burials in Manaus may reach 4,200 later this month..
The crisis in Manaus could be a sign of things to come for the whole country.
Although conditions in São Paulo, the largest city in South America, and Rio de Janeiro, are not as dire, experts warn that the country faces a coronavirus surge similar to those that devasted Italy, Spain and parts of the United States.

I have no idea what Brazil’s normal/average death rate (per day, etc) is.

Manaus is a very large population city, way up the Amazon River in the middle of nowhere.
It is visited by cruise ships and air traffic .
It could have gotten the virus from those air and cruise ship sources.

It will be interesting to see how the population taking the Zelenko regimen compares to those who don't. Ukraine are also having 8 million using just Hydroxychloroquine on weekly intervals (may have various intervals/populations/dosages) as a prophylaxis. He is also working with Stephan Hahn of the FDA. Zelenko indicated that a paper with meta data is ready for review. So, possible we will have Hydroxychloroquine along with Gilead's Remdesivir approved by the FDA for SARS-CoV-2.
On about March 21, and again April 12, Dr. Zalenko sent information to the President about his apparently successful treatment using Hydroxychloroquine and zinc against the virus and Azithromycin as a chaser to prevent bacterial pneumonia. For some odd reason (and one Congress should perhaps ask Fauci about), all the President and others have said is HCQ, NOTHING about the zinc. HCQ opens the cell, and zinc goes into the cell and prevents the virus from reproducing. So anyone who uses only the HCQ is setting themselves up for failure. In fact have just had a trial of HCQ on veterans at a VA hospital. They results are less that promising. SO WHY THE PERSISTENT FAILURE TO USE ZINC???
Meanwhile everyone is talking about the vaccine IN THE FUTURE. Bill Gates is financing 7 companies fast tracking development of different vaccines. I decided to check the prices of HCQ and zinc. Zalenko recommends:
HCQ, 200 mg., 2 per day for 5 days. Bargain generics cost around 37cents a 200 mg. tablet ($3.70)
Zinc Sulfate, 220 mg., 1 per day for 5 days. Prices for 220 mg. tablets ranging from 6 to 17cents (30 to 85 cents)
POOR BIG PHARMA—never going to get rich at those prices.
General: Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) quantities of zinc have been established for boys and men age 14 and older, 11 mg/day; women 19 and older, 8 mg/day; pregnant women 14 to 18, 13 mg/day; pregnant women 19 and older, 11 mg/day; lactating women 14 to 18, 14 mg/day; lactating women 19 and older, 12 mg/day. Tolerable Upper Intake Levels (UL) of zinc for people who are not receiving zinc under medical supervision: adults 19 years and older (including pregnancy and lactation), 40 mg/day.
