While New York has weathered the brunt of coronavirus infections and deaths, the state’s apparent hoarding of medical supplies, and the millions spent on equipment that never arrived, as well as unused hospitals and beds, have some questioning what went wrong.
Early to mid-March projections of the spread of COVID-19 had the state scrambling to bolster its hospital bed capacity to more than double its 53,000 maximum status-quo. Subsequently, hospitals statewide were ordered to discharge patients to free up beds, and forced to add new ones as non-emergency procedures were canceled.
In addition to a bevy of state orders, Gov. Andrew Cuomo made desperate overtures to the federal government to step in. In response, and in record time, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers scrambled to erect at least four field hospitals, and the Navy deployed its USNS Comfort hospital ship to Manhattan.

After the ship and Javitts were both converted to Covid, the state expressly turned down requests from nursing homes to take in Covid patients there.

I’ve just heard about patients who were sent Upstate.
NYC had already spread the virus.
I’m wondering if the patients sent Upstate were human quids pro quo sent to facilities that wanted the monies attached to the patients.
In all fairness to the nursing homes, they are not staffed or equipped to manage and treat a highly contagious illness when patients have serious co-morbidities. What the NY state and NYC local governments did with the nursing home COVID patients was unconscionable.
Typical NYer. Lots of bluster. All hat, no cattle. While telling the rest of the country to send help because what started in NY will spread everywhere. No Bill. No Andrew. Your immigrants, your poverty, your packed like rats living conditions. Your virus.
Think of the Big Dig in Boston, another liberal spithole. How much did the overruns add up to there? And wasn't it the first month when a big chunk of the tunnel ceiling fell onto a car and killed someone? Of course, no one was ever prosecuted.
And then there's the bridge collapse in Minneapolis. Caused by pigeon poop, we're told. Bribes and payoffs for substandard work had nothing to do with it, I'm sure.
If this idiot Cuomo runs for prez, The Donald can slaughter Cuomo with his irresponsible actions on this issue.
Another government created disaster used to steal even more money from the people, forcefully mind you, and give it to the leftist supporters as payback for voting the criminal government into power.
