When the alternative was Bernie they went with Biden because he polled better. Now the alternative is Cuomo so they are shoving Biden under the bus. The polls look worse for Trump now so they want to put forth their most liberal alternative to up the ante.

That person will be under the severe handicap that absolutely NOBODY cast a vote for them in the primaries.
And if it’s Cuomo his opponent will have all sorts of juicy dirt on how he handled the pandemic.
