SAN ANTONIO Governor Greg Abbott identified contact-tracing as a critical element in his plan to reopen Texasand stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has killed nearly 700 across the state.
When a person tests positive for the virus, tracers contact the patient and create a timeline of where that patient has been and with whom he/she has been in contact.
Time is of the essence. We need to identify these contacts as early as possible, said Anita Kurian, assistant director of the Communicable Disease Division with San Antonio Metro Health.
Kurian said the first objective is to identify as many positive cases as possible.
Next, they work to isolate and place those individuals in quarantine, while at the same time conducting the contact-tracing process, investigating all the people who may have been exposed by an infected patient, and place them in quarantine as well.
Isolating the cases from mingling further in the community and spreading the disease and prevent future cases from occurring, and that is done by diligent contact investigations, Kurian said.
The process begins with the patient who identifies the people he/she may have come into contact with, and then creating a timeline of the places he/she has visited.
Kurian said the number of contacts exposed can range anywhere between one and 44. But the average is three.
Our responsibility is to get in touch with these contacts as early as possible and place them under quarantine, so they are not out in the community, Kurian said.
A contact-tracing investigation involves the investigator making a call to the patient. Kurian said the skills of the investigator play a part in how much information the patient reveals.

I understand at some point someone might need medical attention, but the virus could have passed through untold number of young healthy individuals before that occurred. Seems they would only getting the tip of the iceberg. I understand this tracking would be effective if everyone who became infected needed medical treatment, but the fact is, very few do.
700 out of how many millions? Over 25?
Abbott is an ass.
Big picture, apart from constitutional issue there are still large swaths of land around the United States which are without electricity too much of the year for electronic only banking to even be viable.
The end times will come, but not on Bill Gates’ time frame.
That is obviously not the case in this instance.
0bowmaos Army now Abbotts Army.
The thing with these bureaucracies, initiated for a specific function is, as soon as they are in place, they start trying to expand their focus to justify their jobs. In a year or two we will be well beyond this virus, but these “tracers” will be touting their success in limiting flu deaths, via unelected fiat.
Contract tracers are going to be like census workers or Obama phone sales people... unemployed people with limited skills.
It will be better than getting a check for doing nothing, but it will be a complete waste of time.
Being honest with people about THEIR risks (even if it offends them) and Making sure the elderly and overweight aren’t exposed, would be far more productive than the reality of contact tracing.
so if we are considered a contact we will be forcibly detained and forcibly tested and forcibly quarantined?
That sounds like freedom.
Do they do this with fags with AIDS and syphilis? Do they do it with Mexicans with diseases we wiped out here decades ago?
Didn’t think so.
We’ll have a bounty on our head and end up on the U.S. Post Office bulletin board. We’ll be trying to tunnel out of Texas in order to buy a loaf of bread.
The STASI were pikers compared to our own internal spy apparatus. I mean that literally. The STASI existed for 40 years. In that time they collected 900 million to a Billion pages of information.
The NSA/CIA collect that here every TWO DAYS.
The STASI never dreamed of getting such information. The USA today is the most intrusive government into the lives of it’s citizens, in the history of planet earth, no exceptions.
Open up the State and stop worrying about the virus!
Que Monty Python...
“Get on with it!”
lol
lol
When a guy like this governor implements something like this it makes me think maybe there’s reason to.
i’m not from TX. I have a jerk governor who I would expect this from.
It’s funny. The TX governor has more clout in my agreeing with my governor’s decisions than my governor. :)
Wrong currency.
Brass or lead at the *precious metals* you want.
Abbott, you moron, you can’t stop the infection by tracking because probably at least 90% of the people who get infected never show symptoms, so what good will it do to trace the 10% who show symptoms and how do you know they don’t have some other virus like a cold or flu? ... and besides, you do know that the only way to stop this virus is to achieve population immunity by getting 70%-80% infected, so why to you want to keep that from happening?
