GASTON COUNTY, N.C. Gaston County leaders announced their plan to reopen businesses in the county at 5 p.m. Wednesday, going against Governor Roy Cooper's stay home order.
Even though Cooper extended his order for another two weeks through May 8, Gaston officials openly said they're contradicting him with their reopening order. The county plans to "reopen for business" and is giving business owners the option to reopen as long as they practice social distancing. For example, large venues like sit-down dining and move theaters can operate under strict protocols. Gyms can reopen if they adhere to strict physical distancing and sanitation protocols.
Commissioner Tracy Philbeck says he has a moral right to stand up for the county against Cooper's stay home order.

Good.
I hope I don’t need to pull the 5k trigger on a home weight machine.
Reopen the gyms in WA!
Power Freak, Cooper. Shove it!
Take Ralph with you.
An attorney in his family’s law firm after getting his degree. Went into politics. Has no effing clue what a job is, or how a business functions. Yet another POS Democrat/Socialist.
Gaston County’s about as close as you can get to mountain folk...without the mountains.
No, Crowders and Kings Mountains don’t count.
Gaston County is just outside the belt line on the west side of Charlotte. Charlotte is in Mecklenburg County (1,567 cases and 43 deaths) which is one of the hot spots for the Virus.
Gaston only has 140 cases with 3 deaths.
Got a number of friends that live in Gaston County. I give a big thumbs up to Gaston.
Good, good, good!
The left easily took ALL our rights, we didnt fire a single shot. America is D E A D.
Good! This nonsense has to end!
A lot of the ancestors of the current residents came from the NC mountains to work in the Gaston County textile mills.
Gaston County >> Goodonya !
Interesting. I knew Gaston County was big in textiles. It’s the beginning of the foothills, right? I know they were famous for their fish camps...Linebergers? I also knew, in high school, you didn’t go to Gastonia on Saturday nights to cause trouble. You’d get hurt! :~]
You are correct on all counts, although I think for many years Gastonians had to cross into Mecklenburg County to drinks in bars since Gaston was a dry county.
There used to be a really good seafood place my folks went to often.
I forgot the name.
I grew up on the other side of the line from Gastonia.
It’s been decades since I’ve done more than just pass through.
Twin Tops is one of Gaston County’s most famous seafood restaurants.
Back in the 70s, I remember it being infamous from what mom and dad said.
I went there once in the late 80s. Nothing to write home about.
In York County, a place called the Pork N More had a killer seafood buffet on Friday and Saturday nights. I ate too much there.
One place I went to was called the Captain’s Cap. It was good.
Outside of the Clover / Lake Wylie area is (was by now probably) a diner called the racetrack or speedway. I dropped in whenever I was up that way.
I have a road trip set soon to visit the folks and drop some stuff off with them. It will be sad to see if I read a closed or worse out of business sign on the door.
