Rigorous Government Sponsored Clinical Trial Shows Gilead's Remdesivir Quickened Recovery From COVID-19
Epoch Times ^ | 04/29/2020 | Zachary Steiber

A rigorous trial sponsored by the U.S. government showed remdesivir has a clear impact on hospitalization time for COVID-19 patients, Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Wednesday.

Fauci heads the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which provided funding for the clinical trial.

An independent data and safety monitoring board, which analyzed results from the trial, notified researchers that the results show remdesivir “has a clear-cut, significant positive effect in diminishing the time to recover,” Fauci told reporters at the White House.

“What it has proven is that a drug can block this virus,” he added.

The median recovery time for patients in the group receiving remdesivir, an experimental drug developed by the California-based Gilead Sciences, was 11 days, compared to a 15-day median recovery for the group receiving a placebo, or a 31 percent faster recovery time.

The mortality rate for the remdesivir group was 8 percent, compared to 11 percent for the other group, though the number has not yet reached statistical significance.

The full results haven’t been released but the NIAID announced the data several days earlier than it normally would because of ethical considerations, Fauci said.

“Whenever you have clear cut evidence that a drug works, you have an ethical obligation to immediately let the people who are in the placebo group know so that they can have access, and all of the other trials that are taking place now have a standard care,” he said.

The trial started on Feb. 21 and included over 1,000 patients with advanced cases of COVID-19, a disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, a novel coronavirus from China. The patients were treated across multiple countries, including the United States.

Results will be peer reviewed, Fauci said.

So why didn’t they do this with HCQ?

So when are the results of the HCQ tests going to be in. Or, because the cost of one is approximately $100 and the other is $.12 we won’t be seeing any clinical trials.

Fauci can spin it however he wants but there is more hype than hope in the original article.

Link

“Although not statistically significant, patients receiving remdesivir had a numerically faster time to clinical improvement than those receiving placebo among patients with symptom duration of 10 days or less (hazard ratio 1·52 [0·95–2·43]). Adverse events were reported in 102 (66%) of 155 remdesivir recipients versus 50 (64%) of 78 placebo recipients. Remdesivir was stopped early because of adverse events in 18 (12%) patients versus four (5%) patients who stopped placebo early.”

This sure sounds less exciting than the earlier reports, where the patients were described as pretty far gone. I was thinking that this could have a role as a backup to HCQ.

The disconnect between Fancy’s touting this study and his reaction to HCQ is stunning.

Don’t know about anyone else, but I have lost whatever respect I might have had for the US medical establishment.

HCQ works only when treated early during the infection stage. By the time you end up in hospital ICU, HCQ is not going to save you. Your best hope at that stage is massive infusion of anti-bodies from a recovered patient.

they condemned half to WORSE TREATMENT
denying them the cure = quinine or hydroxychloroquine.

condemned.

how many did they murder by
KNOWINGLY denying curative treatment?

did they tell them all the alternatives, risks
and benefits including HCQ and quinine?

or did they own stock in the company?

Cause HCQ is cheap, mere pennies, Remdesivir costs 1,000 and apparently China requested a patent for this drug

Inadequate testing and it hasn’t been around long enough to see what the long term effects are.

I would stick with the treatment the rest of the world is using.

The whole world is conducting clinical trials with hydroxychloroquine and Z Pak.

That it their problem, no mechanism to try to suppress treatment successes in the third world.

We have been had

Faux xi said Trump would face a pandemic late in his term in 2017.

This is the insurance policy

It’s why there have been no prosecutions, why the guilty walk free.

It’s why dem states will stay in quarantine until the election so that PTrump can’t campaign. It’s why the ChiComs and their allies are making their move now. Gates and ChiComs even want us meatless and illiterate. Ayers and his small schools (used to work with someone who knows him and yes, small schools are his)...group work...Common Core (also part Ayers)..idiot youth and easily killed elderly. Oh, and global collapse- FU USA.

In “Glory, “ Denzel W shouted “tear it up.” Well, tear it up.

Someone had posted a chart comparing HCQ & Remdesivir. I thought I’d saved it, but can’t find it now.

IF I recall correctly, it was similar to this:

Remdesivir was $1,000/treatment vs. HCQ at $20/treatment.

(I could be wrong.)

I suppose he felt no “moral obligation” to treat patients with HCQ.

There are a great many clinical trials going on simultaneously — on about 3 dozen different promising drugs (including HCQ). All the drugs have already been proven safe — a process that normally takes an average of 12 years — so, these trials are only taking a few months. HCQ is (rightly) being prescribed already; but, the clinical trials will tell us more about dosing, other drugs that it works/conflicts with, and when to administer it. The anecdotal evidence is strongly positive — but, there is also negative anecdotal evidence — the clinical trials will settle matters once and for all.

Remdesivir has a unique way of fooling COVID-19 into thinking that it's adenosine.

Which I believe will eventually be overcome by the virus mutating to ignore remdesivir gluing down the "A" on the amino acid keyboard.

Fauci is just another stooge, a mandarin, in a series of Narratives attempting to control the daily #MSM cycle, featuring CCP studies - and one really awful survey study by NIH - that attempt to destroy all existing protocols, particularly Prof. Raoult's 50c-a-day winning treatment of Plaquenil and Azithromycin.

This is now a bald-faced progrom at the highest level of government, to pave the way for 2 things - a $1,000 a dose miracle drug, and Gates' miracle vaccine.
