Trump Surprised After Yahoo Reporter Apologizes to Him for Misinformation
Townhall ^ | 04/29/2020 | Cortney O' Brien

Posted on 04/29/2020 7:08:16 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

A Yahoo! reporter got his facts wrong during President Trump's briefing with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Tuesday. The reporter, Hunter Walker, asked Trump why South Korea was far outpacing the U.S. on testing per capita. A surprised President Trump shot back that Walker's numbers didn't sound quite right, and Dr. Deborah Birx confirmed his suspicions a few minutes later. Addressing Walker, Birx corrected him that while South Korea is at 11 tests per 100,000, the U.S. is at 17 per 100,000.

"Alright, are you going to apologize Yahoo!?" Trump asked the reporter. "That's why nobody knows who you are, including me."

Birx was a bit more civil, simply telling Walker to double check his numbers.

Then something amazing happened. He actually apologized.

In the Oval Office, I asked about test rates and infection rates compared to South Korea. President Trump and Dr. Birx said I was wrong that they've done more tests per capita. Trump said I should apologize. They did not address multiple questions about our higher infection rate.— Hunter Walker (@hunterw) April 28, 2020

We have passed South Korea in the number of tests conducted per capita. I misread the mobile version of this chart and am sorry about that @realDonaldTrump . Our infection rate is far higher though as I noted.— Hunter Walker (@hunterw) April 28, 2020

Instead of continuing to gloat, Trump was grateful for the apology. He thanked Walker during his White House press conference with small business owners who shared their testimonies about how they had benefitted from the Payment Protection Program.

Instead of continuing to gloat,”

There was no gloat. This snarky author can shove it. Yes “the shallow Trump was surprised when the heroic reporter gave an apology”. FU Courtney. Town Hall has been compromised too.

Still, any apology is progress, even if it doesn't exactly match your formula.

By showing gratitude, President Trump not only accepted this apology, but showed others that it is safe to apologize to him.

The brightest among the media class might take notice. Maybe some day both of them will do the same?

No, the correct word is virulence. The infectivity is not yet known due to lack of antibody testing data. Dr. Oz, in his own words on the radio, proposed the idea that the European-spread virus was more virulent (deadly) than the one coming directly from Wuhan. It was a fact-based musing, and will require post-epidemic study using factual numbers, if we can get them.

I have never cared much for Dr. Oz, but I have to admit he has been a steady voice of knowledge and reason during this time.

Republicans/Conservatives seek to help others.
Democrats/Communists/Socialists/Journalists try to undermine and ask ‘gotcha’ questions instead of getting information that can help everyone.

#9 Dr. Oz addressing the notion that a more virulent strain hit the east coast?

The Cuomo and Blasio strain of virus. Responsible for some 17,000 dead so far.

Backhanded apology, still said that he was right about the infection rate. The infection rate doesn’t matter, it is the rate of hospitalizations and deaths that matter.

Virulent

adjective

(of a disease or poison) extremely severe or harmful in its effects.

NOTICE the MEDICAL DEFINITION.

Look it up online if you doubt. Dr Oz is a hack.

Speaking of the infection rate, the rate in Florida has been dropping over the past week from over 10% OF THOSE TESTED, to 8.9% yesterday. IOW, more tests, lower rate albeit the number of infections which form every headline going up. Today’s headline: 33193 infections in Florida. Rate not noted, one has to dig.

How can they ever get 100% of the population to precisely follow "social distancing"? It would take quite the police state to accomplish that goal.

Your condescension does not enhance your point.

I know quite well the definition. Regardless of one’s opinion of Dr. Oz, he made the observation that the CCP virus on the Easy Coast, which has been shown to be more closely related genetically to the Iran and Europe infections, appears to be more virulent - that is, more severe and harmful - than the virus found on the west coast, which genetically appears to come primarily from direct import from Wuhan.

As I stated, the observation is certainly not dispositive. But I am not discounting its potential correctness of the observation just because I have historically not cared for Dr. Oz.

For Walker to apologise was commendable.

Everyone should make a correction and apologise when he has made a mistake. This should be routine--in fact, knee-jerk--for all news reporters, as for all decent people.

"Instead of continuing to gloat, Trump was grateful for the apology. He thanked Walker".

This was also commendable. President Trump never "gloats." He is a man of enormous magnanimity and forbearance.

Every time I read about a false statement made to harm the President, I can’t help but think there is a method to the media’s madness. Publish the false statement, get caught, and then either ignore the lie or offer a lame apology. Other than possibly protecting the media outlet from a defamation claim, the apology is meaningless. Few people will learn about the apology or even care. The vast majority of Trump haters, and the uninformed, will remember only the false statement as “speaking truth to power.” The media has it both ways - it slanders the President without consequence and continues to poison the political atmosphere as we approach the election.

Do they really believe that anyone is listening with baited breath to those numbers? They are throwing out the numbers hoping no one is paying attention to what is going on behind the scenes...don’t ask me what - that’s why it’s behind the scenes! I will not listen to any of the briefings or the news...and feel so much better for it.
