CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) The governor of North Carolina said Tuesday that NASCAR can go forward with the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway without fans in attendance at the end of May unless health conditions deteriorate in the state.
Gov. Roy Cooper said he and state public health officials have had discussions with NASCAR and the speedway regarding safety protocols for staging the race. Cooper said the state offered input on NASCAR's plan, but he believes the race can go forward on Memorial Day weekend for the 60th consecutive year.
We believe that unless health conditions go down, we believe we can hold the Coca-Cola 600, Cooper said.
He said NASCAR should have an announcement later this week.

Wondering if the Indiana governor will do something similar for the Indy 500.......
Make America Loud Again
How fast do you have to go to outrun Coronavirus?
Keep six feet away from other cars!
Got tired of watching drivers play a video game after about five seconds.
Last I heard the Indy 500 has been rescheduled for August. There is apparently the possibility that IndyCar might run Texas in June, though.
A race with no fans? I guess that’s progress . . . maybe . . . I think . . .
Ain’t happening in CRASHCAR. ;)
I could be wrong on this, but I think the track does get a cut of the TV revenues.
If I was doing it, I might try something like limiting the crowd to 30,000 with an age limit of 50-and-under. Protect the most vulnerable and facilitate a little herd immunity.
Watching others driving a sim isn’t my cup of tea either, but iRacing is pretty darn good. Quite a few pro drivers were running it even before the current situation.
Whats wrong with giving people the freedom of choice whether they want to attend?
Bigger things to worry about than infection.
Indy is going for a date in August.
Fir those that dont know The Capitan aka Rodger Penske has purchased the Indianapolis Motor Speedway as well as the INDYCAR Series.
Great news... see Matt Kenseth back on the racetrack will be great, along with seeing Ryan ‘Rocket Man’ Newman back in the #6.

lets roll
I didn’t... If you know about iRacing, it is tough. My hometown track (Stafford Springs) is in iRacing and it feels the same like it is in real life.
