The number of deaths with the coronavirus has risen to 2,274 in Sweden. Mondays usually see a small rise due to a reporting lag over weekends.
"Since we don't have much data from which to draw conclusions today, we'll go directly to this image which shows our strategy, to flatten the curve so much that the healthcare sector can deal with the situation. That's our goal, along with protecting those that are especially vulnerable to serious illness," said deputy state epidemiologist Anders Wallensten, referring to the image below.
Wallensten emphasised that anyone with any symptoms of illness, including very mild symptoms, should stay at home and avoid social contacts, as should anyone aged over 70 or in another risk group. Everyone should avoid large gatherings and unnecessary travel, he said.
The biggest obstacle for the healthcare sector was limited protective clothing, Johanna Sandwall from the National Board of Health and Welfare said.

I don't look to Sweden for leadership on gun control nor am I expecting their largely homogenous pool of obedient citizens to blaze a trail for Americans. But all is not as well as flubros want us to think in the land of løveli lakes and the wønderful telephøne system.
We all knew Sweden would experience a higher spike than the US. But, IMO, they are looking at two curves (the economic curve is #2) or perhaps three curves (potential unrest is #3) and are not fixated on the one (Covid-19) curve like we are.
They made decisions on how to balance them and have decided that keeping the economy moving and the people happy is worth the higher infections and attendant casualties. If their hospitals aren’t overrun, then it sounds to me like they have it contained, despite the higher proportional death count.
We’ll see how well this carries them through any “second wave,” but my amateur guess is they will weather it better.

So? The Swedes believe herd immunity will be achieved by May while we have to OpenSocial distancing all summer.
Unlike America, they are willing to speak honestly about their mainstream news.
Flubros aside, Sweden made the unique judgement that the best path for them was to take measured steps (social distancing, protecting the most vulnerable from exposure), to mimimize the economic damage, and their health care system would not be overwhelmed.
So far they have been correct.
They are also in a cooler clime, whereas the US is a mix of warmer and cooler areas.
The 72.5k adjusted fatality value is achieved by dividing Sweden's fatality total by its population then multiplying that quotient by the US population. This figure isn't time-adjusted but putting things in context is important.Meaningless garbage.

Even if they count differently, they are far less than those

The U. S. has a very low DPM.
We’re 16th on the list. Sweden is 11th.
Spain, Italy, France, and the U. K. are 4th, 5th, 6th, and
7th, in that order.
Here are there DPM in order, 496, 441, 350, and 305.
Sweden is 217 per million.
You’d have to add 40% to Sweden’s DPM to equal the lowest

Any way you slice it, Sweden shows pretty well against them.

In contrast, where the data justify such activity, I'm all-in on openingnher up. This is especially true in your WA which, as you know, is a success story. Kings County basically issued a soft "lockdown" order on March 4. WA hit her size-adjust 1,000th fatality on March 9. The locals did a much better job than the statewide authorities, and the diversion of air traffic to Vancouver helped. Indeed, by the time Gov Inslee issues his unnecessary stay-at-home order on March 23 (or 13 days after breaching 1000) WA was already doing much better on a timeline and size-adjusted basis than the nation as a whole. In fact, her adjusted fatality total was less than 1/3 that of the nation as a whole. As of Day 33, WA has the second lowest adjusted fatality total of any state, and was actually comparable to Austria.
As for Sweden, her champions tend to downplay the calling of balls and strikes. Sure, they haven't vaporized their service economy like we have (which is likely to spawn higher US suicides and other carnage). But it isn't BAU. There are cracks forming - most notably a higher adjusted death total - and their economy is suffering.
There is no need for alarm. Time will tell if their hands off approach works for them. But I'd say they're facing 2-1 count vs the 3-0 count called by most SE supporters.
My point, is that SE isn't all rainbows and unicorns. If we believed the hype, they are all clubbing and working and partying like it's 1999. That's simply not true...while they haven't kicked their economy in the groin like the US did, they are showing cracks and a few signs that maybe this hands off approach wasn't so costless.
Come Christmas, we will see where the world got it right and wrong. Until then, I pray for the sick and pull for America. And thank you for your data work.

As for leadership, it is odd that normally smart Americans who (correctly) ignore liberals when they tell us to look at European nations for wisdom on things like gun control or health care, suddenly become part of Team Sweden when it comes to managing a pandemic. Maybe they aren't that smart after all. Indeed, if they like the Swedish approach so much, maybe they should move there.

Search engines can be used to, among other things, find information about sites where one has click bait concerns. I am also hearing that small farmers' business is booming as locals realize that meat doesn't naturally come from a syrafoam tray.
There is a lot about which to be concerned. There is also cause for hope. It can go either way but we've always persevered. Ultimately, I am praying - it's in His hands.

One without SD (up to 2.2 million) and one without SD (currently just over 74 thousand BY AUGUST 4th).
