McConnell: Senate will return on May 4 to start next coronavirus relief bill

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Monday that the Senate will return to the Capitol next week — and he outlined GOP priorities for a fifth coronavirus relief bill.

“Senators will return to Washington D.C. one week from today. We will modify routines in ways that are smart and safe, but we will honor our constitutional duty to the American people and conduct critical business in person," McConnell said in a statement.

"If it is essential for doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, truck drivers, grocery-store workers, and many other brave Americans to keep carefully manning their own duty stations, then it is essential for Senators to carefully man ours and support them," he added.

That means the Senate will return on Monday, May 4. The House has not said when it will come back, though House Democrats have said it will not be before May 4.

McConnell hinted that Republicans could try to include language to help shield businesses from lawsuits as states lay the groundwork for starting to reopen shuttered parts of the economy.

The only relief people need is for states to start opening the economy.

This fourth (fourth!!) one will have nothing todo with the virus or economy.

It will be for mail in voting, Planned Parenthood, free abortions, government worker pension bailouts, PBS NPR funding, health care and tuition for illegals, etc.

It better not have mail in voting. We the people will demand Trump not sign it. And we will win.

That would be great, but I’m trying to figure out how that would ever hold up under a legal challenge. Civil lawsuits are generally governed by state law.

Stop doling out cash. People want to work. Lives are being destroyed and hand outs aren’t permanent nor do they replace a business built up over a 20+ year period

Enough with the relief bills. If the government can fix the problem by sending out money, then let’s all quit work, stay home watching TV, and collect money. Government will pay everyone and no one will have to work.

Obviously the general public is not going to use their powers of reason to discover that the government’s money comes from people who actually produce things at WORK. The general public has been dumbed down so much that it is incapable of thinking.

They’re setting some really incredibly bad precedents!

We’re swimming in a sea of “moral hazards”. With all these giveaways some people are going to start liking just staying home.

The best thing would be for the Senate and House to stay away until after their August recess and then come back to pass the necessary spending bills to keep the Government open.
