Six Bay Area counties announced Monday in a joint statement they'd be extending shelter-in-place orders through the end of May amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The extended orders affect Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties, as well as the City of Berkeley, which has its own public health department.

Full details are expected to be released later this week, the health officers said, and "will include limited easing of specific restrictions for a small number of lower-risk activities."

The current shelter-in-place restrictions for the six Bay Area counties were set to expire on May 3, though California's statewide stay-at-home order that was issued in March has no set expiration date.

I live in Santa Clara County. People are out-and-about en masse. Good luck enforcing this ruling.

I’m also in SCC. And I’ve noticed the same; traffic isn’t what it was before the lockdowns, but it’s increasing.

I think that, at first, people were complying with stay at home orders, as the initial reasoning was to “flatten the curve” so that healthcare facilities would not be overwhelmed with virus patients.

And I think people were complying based on talk that these stay at home orders would be for about two weeks.

I think people are less compliant now, because the original two week estimates of lockdown are long past, we have achieved the goal of flattening the curve, those who work for a living want to get back to work, and people are getting cabin fever stuck in the house or apartment. And sometimes stuck inside with family members they may not be used to spending so much time with.

And how do all the people being told to stay-at-home pay their bills?

FedGov support won’t go on forever ... do these 6 Bay Area counties plan to send out cheques to everyone?

Disappointing. I’m in Contra Costa county—all this driving around I’m seeing can’t be all for grocery shopping.

I’m hoping the “new relaxed” restrictions include Trump’s “Phase 1” of gatherings of 10 or fewer. I’ve already let my teens go see their friends, beginning this past weekend, after 40 days in quarantine (none of us left the house by car at all—I got all groceries delivered).

That alone would help with the severe isolation I’m sure many are feeling.

I wonder if a correlation can be drawn from the increasing numbers of those ignoring the stay at home orders. Have they lost trust in the media and politicians? If so, I wonder if that bodes well for PDJT.

Agreed. We’re tired of moving the goal posts and the changing stories on why we need to be sheltered.

The freeway was backed up this morning whilst we were going to Trader Joe's. I agree, people are sick of this and we will see less compliance.

Exactly, good choice of words. They are moving the goalposts.
We have achieved the initial goal.

Some doctors have said we should stay locked down until we have a vaccine. This won’t happen for at least another year, if indeed we can devise a vaccine at all. Are we really supposed to sit home for a year or more, while Dr. Fauci and his boys work on a vaccine?

It’s fine for Dr. Fauci and his boys to work on a vaccine. But let them do that as we continue to reopen the country.

Mthrfkr!!!

I’ve had it! and I am still selling but, 1/2 my colleagues are still not working

20% of the cars are on the road and there is zero, nada, zip traffic to speak of.

CHP can be regularly seen pulling someone over at Brokaw & 880

Haven’t seen that in two months.

I never hit my brakes at rush hour, which feels more like early Sunday Morning.

Several restaurants that have been around decades closed permanently this weekend.

There are no restaurants I can go to and share conversation with friends, family or business prospects.

I am reduced to takeout and really, I have decided I don’t want to wait in line and have begun cooking at home, which I haven’t done since I lived at home with Mom.

This is insane and now we are under orders to wear masks Everywhere

When any of these restaurants open again they will be under orders to wear gloves and masks.

Fooking stew pet for a few reasons.

Gloves carry germs longer than if they are on skin and glove wearers won’t be washing hands as often as they should

Masks? I’ve got a great American Flag Mask and I gotta say, it’s not comfortable to breathe through the damn thing after a few minutes, particularly if exert myself in the slightest.

I can imagine whirling dervish waiters and bus boys may run into the same thing but, the real kicker is, they won’t be changing their masks at regular intervals which will result in them touching an object they have coughed, sneezed, and wheezed in several times a day.

They will be passing around germs and really unless the waitress is hot, it’s gonna be gross just thinking about it.

Stupid.

Now, here is the real pity: With everyone in the restaurant wearing gloves and masks it’s gonna feel like I’m in a ghoulish medical facility and that is pretty unappetizing.

LOL, that was a good movie. As I recall the dad spent most of his adult life searching for clue after clue to the secrets of the founding fathers.

Goodbye economy, jobs, housing market, etc.

Idiots.

If I were a tech company announce a move to Texas or somewhere else and watch Santa Clara County lift their order immediately.
