New York’s June 23 presidential primary has been canceled, the state’s Democratic Board of Elections commissioners announced Monday.

Bernie Sanders has been removed from the ballot and Joe Biden has “effectively" won the New York primary, the board said.

*snip*

Sanders has made clear he wanted to stay on the ballots for upcoming state primaries in an effort to influence Biden and the Democratic Party platform at the national nominating convention.

Sanders' campaign reaffirmed his desire to remain on the New York ballot in a letter Sunday night to the Board of Elections.

Poor old Bernie got outmaneuvered again. This never would have happened to Lenin. I’m beginning to think that Bernie is not a very good revolutionary.

Just change the rules and let the insider’s pick, Joe Biden, slide into the top slot.

Disgusting.

An old Soviet USSR election trick.

Cancel elections, even primary elections.

That’s the New York Democrat Party.

No Primary Election, The voters do not matter.

It should be that If a State Party has no Primary, then they cannot place a name on the General Election ballot.

That’s... illegal.

Even though Bernie had suspended his campaign the delegates were still his to earn (and to use for negotiating during the convention)

Moreso illegal because the remaining elections for city/state races are still ON!

Yeah but A - the GOP did it, not the state and B- there was no contest.

The Democratic Party makes up its rules as it goes along—and anyone who has a problem with that is a Neanderthal racist homophobe right wing extremist! ;-)

The solution is easy.

Trump should take the New York Democrat Party to court and prevent the them from placing a candidate on the ballot in November.

No Primary, no candidate!

I looked it up. Trump already has a mathematical look on his party’s nomination. But Biden does not. He needs 1991 delegates to win.

Biden: 1312
Bernie: 936

Bernie still had a shot.

Bernie l-o-v-e-s being taken off the ballot.....its a big money-maker for ol’ Bern.

He already has about 10 fund-raising letters at the printer pressuring the Bernie Bros to cough up some cash..... so he wont feel bad.

Nah nah - see, the whole thing has been a ruse.

Political parties have always had total control of whom they decide to run as a candidate in the election. This was done only by people who were IN and participated with the political party.

During the early-mid 1900s there was a push to “reform” this process because the party bosses had too much power and many people were being “left out of the process”. So they integrated the parties with the state government and enacted the primaries and marketed how great and democratic they were.

Except for one tiny problem - LEGALLY, still, the party bosses have total control over whom they run. The DNC has gone to court several times to affirm and uphold that fact.
GENERALLY - they’ll hold to their stated internal rules but as you can see, this is all kabuki theater.

But they may have crossed the line here because this is actual disenfranchisement. Really it depends on how the state law is worded.

“Just change the rules and let the insider’s pick, Joe Biden, slide into the top slot.”

It could be the opposite. If they held their primary, Joe would win nearly all of the delegates, as he will in the remaining primaries, thereby giving him an actual majority of elected delegates and a clear, undisputable win on the first ballot. Absent the primaries, those delegates will remain at least formally and legally uncommitted, meaning there’s at least a theoretical possibility of a disputed convention if Joe’s slide into dementia continues.

Maybe Sanders got a boat and a dock for the lakeside home he acquired after his 2016 run. Or perhaps a South Florida beach front condo to escape the harsh Vermont winters.

why is Biden not complaining about this election being cancelled?

I think any state that doesn’t hold a primary should not be able to hold the general election.

Now, that’s an interesting take on the matter.

If I understand it correctly, in a primary the candidates each pick a slate of delegates, actual people. Those people go to the convention. Who goes depends on the primary vote.

So what happens now in New York? I’ll bet they will let Biden’s entire slate go, and deny every one of Bernie’s people. All without any vote.

If I were a BernieBro, I’d be damn mad about that.

Yeah, he specifically did NOT withdraw, so his name wouldn’t get pulled, but the DNC changed the rules so that a “suspended” campaign couldn’t get any delegates other than ones actually assigned by county.
