Nervous Republicans See Trump Sinking, and Taking Senate With Him
New York Times via Yahoo News ^ | April 26, 2020 | Jonathan Martin and Maggie Haberman

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s erratic handling of the coronavirus outbreak, the worsening economy and a cascade of ominous public and private polling have Republicans increasingly nervous that they are at risk of losing the presidency and the Senate if Trump does not put the nation on a radically improved course.

The scale of the GOP’s challenge has crystallized in the last week. With 26 million Americans now having filed for unemployment benefits, Trump’s standing in states that he carried in 2016 looks increasingly wobbly: New surveys show him trailing significantly in battleground states like Michigan and Pennsylvania, and he is even narrowly behind in must-win Florida.

Democrats raised substantially more money than Republicans did in the first quarter in the most pivotal congressional races, according to recent campaign finance reports. And while Trump is well ahead in money compared with the presumptive Democratic nominee, Joe Biden, Democratic donors are only beginning to focus on the general election, and several super political action committees plan to spend heavily on behalf of him and the party.

Perhaps most significantly, Trump’s single best advantage as an incumbent — his access to the bully pulpit — has effectively become a platform for self-sabotage.

Yep, Maggie Habermann again. Even her Wiki page proves she nothing more than a Democrat hack who did a lot of propaganda for Hillary.

It is well known she a DNC partisan. She is trying to save the sinking Biden from his sex scandal.

As for the source of this, I am guessing the Times had a clandestine bathroom meeting with Pierre. That said, getting smug about Trump’s reelection chances would be incredibly stupid. People are not happy about loss of freedom, jobs, opportunities and finances and they’re going to find people to blame.

I seem to recall about two weeks before the election in 2016 the supposed “press” was full of stories about how the Republican “leadership” were cogitating on how to replace Trump after the idiot Billy Bush tape, including the execrable Paul Ryan. I wonder where the stories are about how the Dems are worried about being dragged down by a 78 year old senile accused rapist.

I never really agreed with most Freepers that so much of this type of reporting is really sort of like push polling. They are attempting to establish a narrative that they want people to believe in order to get the ball rolling.. Its just wishful thinking, and it makes me sick to think they would really be doing this.

Yep, these articles aren’t exactly fun reading but it’s important to be aware of them and to discuss them. You gotta know what the other side is thinking to develop good counterarguments and responses.

“””Nervous Republicans See Trump Sinking, and Taking Senate With Him”””

A far more accurate NYT headline would be:

‘Confident Republicans See Trump Soaring, and Taking Senate, House of Representatives, and a bunch of Governors With Him’

President Trump has done a great job dealing with this Chinese virus situation.

Anyone who is NOT going to vote to re-elect President Trump based on his handling of the coronavirus was NEVER going to vote for him in 2020 under ANY circumstances, virus or no virus, nor did they vote for him in 2016.
