House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) claimed Friday evening that 50,000 Americans died because the Senate failed to remove President Donald Trump from office during the impeachment trial in February.

There is one thing that, really, I have to say haunts me from the trial and it was before that snippet you showed where we knew we had to answer the question to the senators, okay, essentially, house managers, you’ve proved him guilty [sic] (emphasis mine), does he really need to be removed after all? we have an election in nine months. how much damage could he really do? and we posed that question to the Senate and we answered it by saying that he could do an awful lot of damage but frankly, chris, I don’t think we had any idea how much damage he would go on to do in the months ahead. There are 50,000 Americans now who are dead, in significant part because of his incompetence, because of his inability to think beyond himself and put the country first. I don’t think we would have ever anticipated that his brand of narcissism and his brand of incompetence would be so fatal to the American people.

Quite a bit more than most flus in the past in the US. H1N1 (2009-10) has a recorded ~18,500 deaths in the US. I say “recorded” because some studies believe there were more but were under-counted (*cough* Obama *cough*). Still, I don’t think it came close to what COVID-19 will end up at.
Schiff is nutty. Trump stopped travel from China and was called racist by the Dems, which saved lives. Maybe if they didn’t do the muy Russia impeachment we could have spent more time watching Corona in China.

Not really. Because of long experience with the flu we have a good idea of how many deaths it will cause.
A variation of it comes around annually so there’s a track record. There’s also a herd immunity because it is annual, and we have vaccines.
By contrast a novel virus like Covid-19 has no track record and there is no herd immunity. The only other SARS experience was 2003 and it was a killer despite being a fraction as infectious.
The roots are dry.
Go back and look at the Asiatic flu of 1957 and the Hong Kong flu of 1968. In both cases well over 100,000 dead.

Schiff is right, had a democrat been in the “number” would be really low because they:
1. would not be inflating numbers
2. They would be counting covid deaths as heart attacks/strokes etc...
They have been using poll manipulation tactics on Covid, they would be using them but in a different direction.
ACTUAL numbers would be higher with a Dem president though...
