There was an H1N1 flu under Obama in 2009, no SARS.
The only previous SARS outbreak was 2002-2003 during GW Bush, and the totals are known- 775 deaths out of 8,800 worldwide cases.
A kill rate of over 8% which is one reason why the early models for this outbreak ran very high.

What you are remembering is a swine flu outbreak in 1976. One where the vaccine was rushed and resulted in 450 people getting Guillain-Barré syndrome.
Flu vaccines were first used in 1945, by soldiers. When it failed to control flus in 1947 and 1958 other flu strains were discovered and added to the vaccine mix. Flu viruses are unstable and change rapidly making it difficult to know exactly what to put in the yearly vaccine.
