Tom Hanks revealed that he and his wife, Rita Wilson, have volunteered to donate their blood for coronavirus research after recovering from the disease.
A lot of the question is, is what now? What do we do now? Is there something we can do? And, in fact, we just found out that we do carry the antibodies, Hanks said on NPRs podcast Wait Wait Dont Tell Me! last week.
We have not only been approached, we have said, Do you want our blood? Can we give plasma?' And, in fact, we will be giving it now to the places that hope to work on what I would like to call the Hank-ccine, the actor joked.
He said he and Wilson are feeling just fine and dandy after it was reported last month that they had tested positive for the coronavirus while in Australia for a film project. They have since recovered and returned home to Los Angeles.
Hanks said that Wilson experienced nausea from the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine. The drug has previously been touted by President Trump as a possible treatment for the coronavirus, although medical professionals have indicated there is little known evidence that it works effectively for COVID-19 patients.
Hanks said that his wife went through a tougher time than I did," referring to the symptoms she experienced from the virus.
"She had a much higher fever and she had some other symptoms. She lost her sense of taste and smell. She got absolutely no joy from food for a better part of three weeks ... She was so nauseous she had to crawl on the floor from the bed to the facilities, he said during an interview with the National Defense Radio Show earlier this month.

And apparently after 15 minutes it is clear nobody cares!
.
And just like that we were pitre dishes.
Don’t they deserve a humanitarian award for this?
Come to think of it though, I can’t think of an award
that is special enough.
/s
I think they need to come up with another award, just for
celebs that think they’re God’s gift to mankind.
Maybe they could call it the:
The “We’re Just so Much More Special than You!”, award.
In Hank’s and Wilson’s favor here, I’m not sure they are
the ones who publicized this. There’s a whole global
village of idiots out there that go sniffing for any
“S” these folks do.
Gee, they are such good and caring liberals.
I’m glad neither of them died. Other than that I don’t give a chit what either one of them as to say about anything.
What a world we live in where the uneducated, often bigoted, opinions of actors and celebrities are marketed as somehow of value to the masses.
Was he interviewed by Peter Sagal?
Tom Hanks . . . Obama’s favorite Hollyweird playmate. Nothing he does impresses me.
11 people on the fire department that I retired from tested positive. All tested negative 2 weeks later. 1 had symptoms, but it turned out that they were from his seasonal allergies. In the eastern part of King County we were the first to have deaths in the country. This thing went through our community here weeks ago before the “stay at home” order.
Sorry, wasn’t done. If the firefighters were anyone else... none of them would have been tested, yet all of them had it. This has been 40 to 80 times more prevalent than the official numbers indicate because of this.
Good on you guys. What city do you work in?
I thought Wilson was lost at sea many years ago...
Oooh, I just said, “NPR”, I feel so smart now!
That’s mighty white of them.
Does blue mix with red?
And I'm sure the antibodies don't do any good -- I saw that on the evening news tonight, so it must be true.
And about that miracle vaccine...
We are both retired. She was a nurse and department head at multi-level care facilities. I was a fire officer. We have a home in the eastern part of King County Washington. We both have volunteered and been paid to work at the now much maligned Life Care Center in Kirkland, the first care facility associated with deaths from this in the country. It was one of the very best care facilities in this part of the country, offering a higher level of care and a better atmosphere than many small hospitals. The reason they were hit so hard is that they could handle and had a much higher percentage of very sick people in a community with half a million people from China. We had many thousands taking direct flights to and from Wuhan even after they were having the severe outbreak there.
Wow! Desperate act to remain relevent, Hey look everyone! A celebrity gave blood!
