The Treasury Department is considering taking unprecedented control over key operations of the U.S. Postal Service by imposing tough terms on an emergency coronavirus loan from Congress, which would fulfill President Trumps longtime goal of changing how the service does business, according to two people familiar with the matter.
Officials working under Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who must approve the $10 billion loan, have told senior officials at the USPS in recent weeks that he could use the loan as leverage to give the administration influence over how much the agency charges for delivering packages and how it manages its finances, according to the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the talks are preliminary.
Trump has railed for years against what he sees as mismanagement at the Postal Service, which he argues has been exploited by e-commerce sites such as Amazon, and has sought to change how much the agency charges for delivery packages. Argee.
going to the mail box is like going to Gatewaypundit. There might be something good in there but the adds and junkmail are too much to over come.
“can easily be picked up at a Post Office”
Always the highlight of my day, going to the Post Office to wait in line for the mean-spirited and nasty Post Office employees to throw their “significant” weight around.
And people weren’t insulted by PO employees that can’t read and are mean-spirited. Lazy and with 9 counter positions they only “man” two. And they chat and quack slowing the line.
One of the stamp machines stopped working and the only person that could put an “out of Service” sign on it was the top manager of the PO.
Mailed a package with pre-printed label and needed receipt for it and mean PO “lady” refused to print the receipt and refused even when told my the top manager ro print it. Se looked at him, said “I’m not gonna do that” and walked off.
Every PO I’ve been in is dysfunctional and incompetent and mean.
And if worked at a PO, perhaps you are part of the problem.
Just sayin. . .
I’m not arguing Congress doesn’t have the power to establish post roads and oost offices. I agree it’s laid out in black and white.
It isn’t REQUIRED. They simply have the authority to do so. Without regard to that, it also follows congress has the authority to dis-establish it. Cut off the damn funding.
The leftists ruined it (like everything else).
No it would not be feasible. Do you want us driving semi trucks of packages down your street every other day to deliver packages? Especially around Christmas time?
Oh... so clever! And what is your line of work may I ask? It’s people like you that wouldn’t last a week delivering mail. You really should apply and show us how it’s done. You could be a supervisor, most of them have never done the job either, but they “ know” how to do it.
And there is the solution in a nutshell. That is a comprehensive solution that takes care of almost all the problems right there.
You’d have to ask the same of UPS and FedEx. What would they do with an increased volume on days the USPS doesn’t deliver packages? They already offload about 30% of their packages to USPS now
Since you know me, and because you asked: Former Texas police officer (stabbed and hospitalized), former USAF A-10 and F-15E combat experienced fighter pilot, ground-based Forward Air Controller (Gulf War I), and former Pentagon gunrunner to various countries in Africa, and worked to breakup a sex trafficking ring over-seas (earned me a bodyguard for a few years for that effort). No regrets, enjoyed my life, never bored. I
Yup, you are right, no way I could withstand the rigors of being a mailman.
Cheers.
Congrats! Impressive! I’ll stick by what I said !
You sound like the supervisor type!
Commander, not supervisor. You make the right decisions and the right people die, you make the wrong decisions and the wrong people die. No re-sets, No multiple lives. No do-overs.
Sticking with what?
You sticking with your assessment that I would be incapable of handling the stress and physical demands of being a mailman?
Just let it go. Nothing is going to change your opinion or change mine.
You’d make a good supervisor! I’ll stick with that. You know how many ex military work at the USPS? And yet you think they are incompetent? I’ll leave it at that!
Supervisors in the USAF are enlisted. Commanders are officers.
Sadly, some retirees are incompetent. What do I care about how many are employed at the PO?
But we were not talking about USAF until you made a massive error in feeling you knew me. Proven wrong you shift attack to ineffectual remarks about me then my service. Fine, but the PO is the PO and it remains quite a mess.
Cheers!
Ok chief
