Vice President Mike Pence said Thursday that he thinks the coronavirus pandemic could "largely" be "behind us by Memorial Day Weekend.
Am I going to be on my boat and fishing in early June, Mr. Vice President? Fox News Geraldo Rivera asked Pence on his radio show.
If you look at the trends today, I think by Memorial Day Weekend we will largely have this coronavirus epidemic behind us, said Pence, who is chair of the White House coronavirus task force. State and local officials will begin to reopen activities, youre going to see states ahead here begin to do that.

cool beans!
That dingleberry. Its over with now already. They are just keeping things closed from stubbornness And not admitting that his boy Fauci buffaloed him
How is it over with now? Were still at 29k new cases daily.
I hope so. That’s our anniversary weekend. And my husband loves his beef Wellington on anniversary!
Well if it is behind us, well and good. If it’s still lingering or if it takes off again in the fall then his prediction is going to come back and bite him.
Which memorial day?
I like Pence, but this is just another gambit to keep us quarantined, hanging on for just a little bit longer. One week ... Easter ... May 1. I’m not waiting to get on with my life.
I know in Indiana weve been told by the local health department to expect a spike this week. When I ask why, heres the answer I received:
“The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) announced that healthcare providers and hospitals are required to report clinical cases of COVID-19 in addition to cases where patients tested positive for the virus. Prior to this change, only confirmed cases with a positive COVID-19 test were included in numbers recorded by state officials.
As a result of the new clinical case reporting requirements, it is likely the number of reported cases and deaths locally and statewide could see an increase as well.”
Its lingering and coming back to some extent for a very long time.
Fauci and Cuomo have both been saying we are past the peak, so it isn’t just Pence.
Because we will all be infected by then?
I suspect most of those arent new cases; they were people who had already been infected for days but just got tested.
Here in TN we have statically zero cases and deaths. I hate my gov for shutting us down.
Daughter’s wedding is scheduled for 5/23. Not sure what they will do now.
Cuomo is talking about New York, and while he may think New York is the whole world the rest of us don't agree.
We'll see what happens when states reopen.
Given that this is a coronavirus like influenza, it’s likely that we are stuck with it and will always have some of it lingering. Sad but prepare for the worst.
I have been tracking my county, state and US. My state is still growing cases at 5% a day. My county growth is 2.5% a day and the US growth is down from 3 to 4% a day to 1.6% a day. So it’s trending in the right direction with a bit more to go.
Things will start reopening in May. Pence said today they want to make sure when we reopen we don’t have to close again.
What matters is how this ends. By Nov this should be a distant memory — a bad one — but a distant one.
Could we Orthodox then celebrate a delayed Pascha on the Leavetaking of the Feast, Wed. May 27th?
By the help of God!!!!
