The leader of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed Thursday that his troops will “destroy any American terrorist force” that threatens the country’s ships in the Persian Gulf.
The inflammatory comments from Major General Hossein Salami on Iranian state TV come a day after President Trump warned the Islamic Republic in a tweet that he has “instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea."
Trump was speaking in response to an incident last week in the Persian Gulf’s international waters, in which Iranian ships repeatedly crossed in front and behind U.S. vessels at extremely close range and high speeds.

Destroying the Iranian navy won’t make us any new enemies in the region.
They know they are nowhere near a match with our military. That’s why they are limited to empty threats. But yeah, I kind of wish they would provoke us to kill people and break things.

Iran is not a rational actor and what many fail to recognize is that the regime does not have full control over the extremists within their own ranks.
All it will take (and they have flirted with it) is one Revolutionary Guard commander to have sudden Jihad syndrome on their coast as we continue to sail our ships back and forth like targets in a shooting gallery.
It is only a matter of time. The Iranian regime is in a precarious position with a history of lashing out when they feel threatened.

Puffed-up clown making threats his Stone Age soldiers can’t back up. If I remember right, Saddam Hussein made similarly dire claims if his vaunted Republican Guard was attacked. That was right before his vaunted Republican Guard was routed like a flock of chickens and he was captured and hanged.
