New York started collecting blood samples Monday from 3,000 randomly selected people for antibody testing as part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The results may provide a more accurate assessment of how many have been infected with the new coronavirus, but could also serve as a platform for research into potential treatments.
There is, however, some concern about the accuracy of the tests, and questions as to whether enough hospitals and clinics will have access to the materials -- and use them properly.
Richard Serino, distinguished visiting fellow at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health's National Preparedness Leadership Initiative and a deputy minister at the Federal Emergency Management Agency under President Barack Obama, cautioned against thinking that these early antibody testing efforts will lead to a "re-opening" of the U.S. economy anytime soon in a conference call with reporters on Monday.
"Training doctors and nurses on how to use these tests and how to interpret the results is going to be key," he said. Whether or not public hospitals and testing labs -- many of which operate under severe budget constraints -- can afford the tests and the costs associated with processing samples "is also an issue," he added.
On Sunday, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the state's plan to test a sample of New Yorkers for the presence of antibodies produced by people infected with COVID-19. Selected participants started receiving the test kits from the state's Department of Health on Monday.

Cuomo also told the media Monday that a group of hospitals from across the state will be submitting the results of their clinical trials of hydroxychloroquine -- an anti-malaria drug touted as a possible treatment for COVID-19 -- to federal health officials over the next day or so. Cuomo declined to offer details on the results of the trials.
Fauci already said they won't tell us a thing. It just creates a statistic.
I read somewhere or on a Trump virus briefing that the Red Cross will be working on blood issues nation wide.
if the Hydroxychloroquine tests are not using the combo then it is a rigged test guaranteed to fail. Probably intentional.
agree
In other words, it's WHO counts the votes.
If cuomo has anything to do with it , its phony. He committed murder of thousands by Fiat.

Does anyone remotely suspect that Cuomo, the governor of the state with the disastrously highest mortality rate in the country, if not greater than most other countries, will somehow allow for a successful result ?
He simply can’t. If he did, he would be the focus of an avalanche of manslaughter lawsuits due to his insane restriction of this treatment.
He had has chance to do his best to save lives and he willfully caved in to his base which ensured failure.
His only saving grace would be to blame failed clinical trial results on patients refusing the treatment. Afterall, only 18% of democrats polled indicated that they would accept this treatment that President Trump provided hope for at the beginning of the pandemic.
I hope that there is a truthful and transparent explanation of results either way, but no holding my breath.
Yes. They know how to make them fail.
“if the Hydroxychloroquine tests are not using the combo then it is a rigged test guaranteed to fail. Probably intentional.”
Right on the money. They’re also talking about giving the treatment well into the diagnosis of the disease, which is not how it works best supposedly.
Anyone have any doubts that Cuomo will make sure some special sauce is added to the results ?

My cynical side tells me that if HCQ was shown to be ineffective, Cuomo would have teased the results, given his position on restricting its use. My optimistic side hopes the same.
I am recalling at least a couple of NY stories that have been discussed on FR—
1. the NY guy whose girlfriend drove him to virginia to get HCQ after being denied treatment the first time at a hospital ER (there he received HCQ apparently just in time, and lived)
2. the NY pharmacist who stated that if he ever went into a hospital for treatment that he would never be coming out alive (?!)
3. a third story before these two whose details slipped my mind before I was able to get them written down.
Another plus for proving HCQ ineffective is that it could then be denied across the country, prolonging shelter in place orders and keeping the economy on its knees until however long it takes to tank Trump’s election chances in favor of Biden. However, they would not be that cruel and immoral (or would they?)...

My neighbor’s father, in a Nursing home hear in NY, was treated with it and Z-pak. He is 85 and beat the virus.
