Hydroxychloroquine is being tested around the world to see if it can be used as a treatment for the coronavirus pandemic. As the debate intensifies on whether or not it works, 25 percent of physicians around the world believe health care workers should take the drug to prevent COVID-19 infections, according to a new survey.
The survey, conducted by Sermo, a health care data collection company, found that one-quarter (5,158) of more than 20,000 physicians around the world believe the anti-malarial drug should be used to prevent infections. Separately, 50 percent of the physicians surveyed have used the anti-malarial drug in professional settings since March 25.
“Despite the superstorm of controversy surrounding hydroxychloroquine, it still remains the leading treatment option for severe patients and is even being used in milder cases and patients who are simply suspected of COVID," an anonymous emergency medicine physician on Sermo said in the release obtained by Fox News. "At this stage with so little evidence, doctors have very limited options.”
The survey also found that hydroxychloroquine, which has been used to treat malaria since the 1950s, was used by 22 percent (1,443 instances) of physicians prophylactically by the first week of April.
Some 277 uses were in high-risk patients, including first-responders, and 100 uses were used in low-risk patients.
The findings from the study found that the drug was also used in undiagnosed cases.
Currently, there is no known scientific cure for the disease known as COVID-19 and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has cited concerns about hydroxychloroquine as a treatment, including cardiotoxicity, especially with patients who have underlying health issues.
The Food and Drug Administration recently announced an emergency use authorization to try several drugs, including hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, despite a lack of clear evidence of their effectiveness.

Headline is misleading. That is 25% of doctors say the drug should be used by healthy people anticipating exposure to the virus. Far more agree it should be used to treat people known/suspected to have Wuhan Flu

Or could it just possibly be because Plaquenil is not the “Great Drug” it has been advertised to be?
Take it early when the earliest symptoms of fever and cough develop. If treatment is delayed until there is shortness of breath or an actual pneumonitis, much less likely to be effective. The C reactive Protein goes down when Hydroxychloroquine is used. Some, not all patients improve. At this point its the best option physicians have. The fact that these Democratic governors are making it impossible to prescribe in a timely manner is criminal.

Start with the French hospital publishing daily updates to their ongoing clinical trial. To date 2999 Covid-19 patients treat 3 days or more with HCQ+AZ with 12 deaths. This equates to a .4% mortality rate. All with underlying health conditions.

Hydroxychloroquine administered WITHOUT the requisite zinc ion in the cocktail is an exercise in futility. Most people have adequate zinc in their systems for maintenance of good health, but it is burned away at a prodigious when it is used up in penetrating the coronavirus receptors. Thus the need for a LOT of extra zinc ion as zinc gluconate, which is readily absorbed by the body and circulates in the blood stream. The azithromycin is there to act against bacterial pathogens that take advantage of the now weakened immune system.

Or it could be that it is NOT being used for its most successful outcome based on most successful cases as observed by several doctors who have actually used it — EARLY IN THE STAGE OF THE DISEASE, TO PREVENT HOSPITALIZATIONS, not when patients are already intubated.

We’re six weeks in. There’s plenty of data. Where’s the study that demonstrates a reduction in mortality? Retrospective Yoked COntrol? Even a survey of all prescriptions for Plaquenil prior to the epidemic? The data is there. Why isn’t it being made public? This is just two ways to get to a result. I can think of more. I really would like to see it. Show me some evidence and I’ll eat every word. Gladly.

You seem to be fixated on ICU patients while ignoring the good news that when it it used for ITS INTENDED PURPOSE, it prevents disease progression and reduces the burden on hospitals. Which is what it should be used for. NOT WHEN A PATIENT IS IN ICU ALREADY IN RESPIRATOR. But you knew that. We’ve discussed this in other threads.
So if it doesn’t reduce mortality why are we even talking about it? Again? As we have previously discussed? If it’s intended purpose is reduce hospitalizations where is the study that demonstrates it does so? Again? As we have previously discussed? So far we have “reduces viral shedding” and some claims about mortality that are almost meaningless raw data.
So WHY ARE WE discussing this again?

it does. If a patient’s disease does not progress, then he does not die. He does not have to be hospitalized. If he gets well in 5 to 6 days instead of 10 to 14 days, isn’t it significant?

By Study, I assume you want a double blind randomized trial.

If not, then we ought to be discussing this based on the successful usage that have been reported.
How will you treat your patients who exhibit similar symptoms and are Covid-19 positive? What protocol will you use to produce a better outcome than these doctors? Maybe you can share it with us so that we can shout it to the top of the roof.
By the way, you talk about studies.
You read the study made by Dr. Didier Raoult and his team before and he has subsequently done an even LARGER study since you analyzed the results of the smaller study. The larger study was on over a thousand patients.
Did you bother to read the results of the newer study? Or must I send you the PDF again ( actually if you were interested, all you have to do is search for the doctor’s name in FR ).
