Kim Jong-un underwent heart surgery earlier this month and is recovering at his private villa, according to a South Korean report, with US media citing officials as saying the North Korean leader was in “grave danger” after the procedure.
If accurate, the surgery claim, made by the Daily NK website, would explain Kim’s absence from an event to mark the anniversary of the birth of his grandfather – and the country’s founder – Kim Il-sung.
Kim Jong-un underwent the procedure at a hospital in the county of Hyangsan on the country’s east coast on 12 April, according to the Seoul-based Daily NK, which is run mostly by North Korean defectors.

She is First Deputy Director of the Propaganda and Agitation Department and travels with her brother on all his important trips.

Are there any young Kimlings around, or is the family dynasty teetering on the edge?
I’m sure a great and glorious story will emerge about how only the strong and fearless Lil’ Kimmy could overcome such a foe. It will become a new legend.
Kim Yo-jong knows where her bread is buttered. She went to the NK military academy after she graduated in Switzerland.
That she is now as prominent in the Party, the only female member of the Politburo, is pretty much the Chinese seal of approval.
She took temporary charge of the government in 2014 when Kim Jong-un had a health “episode”.
IMVHO Kim Yo-jong is more politically astute than her brother. Probably brighter overall as well. The fact she is female has held her back so far.
The only other heirs are unknowns to the NK people.
Both China and the NK military have an interest in keeping the Kim dynasty going.
We can be sure KJU had Chinese approval when he took out his brother, though I expect they were upset with how sloppy the job was.
