Twentynine Palms Base is located within the Morongo Basin and the High Desert region of the Mojave Desert, in Southern California.

MCAGCC Twentynine Palms is approximately 98 miles from the Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, which is located in the city of Barstow, California. It is also approximately 111 miles from the Barstow-Daggett Airport located in Daggett, California.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the base has a total area of 1.4 mi². This area is all land with none covered by water. This area covers only the main cantonment, which includes the base housing; the entire installation is far larger, with 931.7 mi² of surface area, all land. The MCAGCC/MAGTFTC mission is to conduct relevant live-fire combined arms training, urban operations, and Joint/Coalition level integration training that promotes operational forces readiness as well as to provide the facilities, services, and support responsive to the needs of resident organizations, Marines, Sailors, and their families today and tomorrow.

CA29palms1

An army base for training glider pilots at the outset of World War II, the former navy facility was taken over by the corps in 1952 during the Korean War and the advent of the cold war. The base provided adequate space and ranges to test new artillery and missile technology and was ideal for the large scale training of ground forces.

CA29palms4

In the 21st century, every U.S. Marine does a stint at Twentynine Palms because the climate, terrain, and remote location simulate many international hot spots of world strife. The marines have continually upgraded and expanded the Twentynine Palms facilities as daily maneuvers involve transports, tanks, artillery, and aircraft, particularly at the Expeditionary Air Field.

Was with 4th LAAD Det B ‘87-93 and trained there. Talked dirty to my wife every day just to escape the heat.

But sleeping in the dessert was cool.

Friends Again

Bible in a Year:

How much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

Romans 5:10

A mother and her young daughter are sitting in church one day. During the service, opportunity is given for people to publicly receive God’s forgiveness. Every time someone walks forward to do so, the little girl begins to clap. “I’m so sorry,” the mother later tells the church leader. “I explained to my daughter that repentance makes us friends with God again, and she just wanted to cheer for everyone.”

Simplified for a child’s mind, the mother’s words were a good explanation of the gospel. Once God’s enemies, we have been reconciled to Him through Christ’s death and resurrection (Romans 5:9–10). Now we’re indeed God’s friends. Since we were the ones to break the friendship (v. 8), repentance is our part in completing the restoration process. And the little girl’s response couldn’t have been more appropriate. Since all heaven claps when just one person repents (Luke 15:10), she was unknowingly echoing its applause.

Jesus described His reconciling work in similar terms. “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). As a result of this sacrificial act of friendship toward us, we can now be friends with Him. “I no longer call you servants . . . . Instead, I have called you friends” (15:15).

Once God’s enemies, we are now God’s friends. It’s an overwhelming thought. And one worth clapping about.

Reflect & Pray

How often do you describe your relationship with God as one of friendship? In practical terms, how is your friendship with Him going today?

God, thank You for loving me when I was still Your enemy. I repent of everything that disappoints You and celebrate being Your friend.

It is no secret that I am still running Windows 7 and refuse to be suckered into installing Windows 10. Yesterday I got a message from the dreaded Microsoft that there is now available Microsoft Edge for Windows 7.

I downloaded and installed it. It is quite different from previous versions of Internet Explorer. It is much faster and with more bells and whistles. So far i like it. ;-)

Great that you’ve been able to keep Windows 7...and even greater that you stipped out of your comfort zone and liked what you got from it.👍🏻

I tried to like Edge....it’s not working. When I go to FR...like always, I can’t change the font from New Times Roman, WHICH I HATE AND REFUSE TO USE!!!

I finally was able to get My Favorites Bar to stay at the top where I want it. I spend all my time at FR, but no New Times Roman. I guess I will stick with IE until one of us dies.
