Yum Chinas (YUMC.N) KFC fast food chain will begin selling plant-based fried chicken for the first time in China over a limited time period, it said on Monday.
The nuggets will be supplied by U.S. agribusiness Cargill Ltd [CARGIL.UL] and will be sold at only three outlets in China in Shanghai and the southern cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen between April 28-30, KFC said on its official Weibo account.
Customers who would like to try a bite must purchase a pre-sale coupon, it said. One serving comprises of five chicken pieces and will be sold for 1.99 yuan.
The move comes amid growing global interest in Chinas meat substitute industry, which has been identified by both U.S. players Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat (BYND.O) as a key target market. The coronavirus outbreak is also threatening Chinas poultry production.

Yeah I like my meat to come from meat.
I’m strange that way :)
This has got to be one of the worst timing ever!
It ain’t natural. Anyways, KFC should find ways of divesting itself from ChiCom-based business.
Who ever thought this up better have their resume ready...and leave this bullet off.
If it tastes like bat, it should be very popular in China.

Probably soylent green.
Mmmmm, tastes like Chinese political prisoner!
“Plant Based”
The new euphemism for vegan cardboard. I’ll pass.
Fake chicken made in China. What could possibly go wrong?
I had to read this three times.
First I thought KFC was selling a chicken (processing) plant that it owned in China.
Then I thought KFC was selling chicken that got fed with plants.
If it’s made out of plants, it’s not chicken, no matter how it tastes.
Just like the fortune cookie fortune said.
Fine, never do business with KFC, period.
Isn’t all chicken plant-based? Chicken eats corn.
