MARION, Ohio (WCMH) More than 1,800 inmates at Marion Correctional Institution have tested positive for COVID-19 coronavirus.
As of Sunday, 1,828 Marion Correctional inmates have tested positive, along with 109 staff members. Of the 1,828 cases, 38 are currently receiving outside hospital level care, according to an Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction spokesperson.
There are approximately 2,500 inmates in the Marion Correctional Institution.
One staff death was announced on April 8, corrections officer John Dawson. No inmates at Marion Correctional have died.
According to the ODRC, mass testing has been instituted at Marion Correctional, as well as Pickaway Correctional and the Franklin Medical Center.
Because we are testing everyone including those who are not showing symptoms we are getting positive test results on individuals who otherwise would have never been tested because they were asymptomatic, ODRC said in its daily release of information.
Individuals who test positive are placed in an area of the facility which is separate from the general population, ODRCs statement said.
Also, our comprehensive testing approach of staff and inmates has assisted us in identifying asymptomatic individuals who have tested positive who can now be isolated from others in order to prevent further spread, the statement said.
Throughout Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction facilities, 2,400 inmates have tested positive and 637 have tested negative.
According to Marion Public Health, as of Saturday, there are 80 community spread cases in the county, leading to one death. Including the prison testing, the county now has the most reported coronavirus cases in the state.
The disease is everywhere...but most have no symptoms, and most of the rest have mild symptoms. So why do we panic about this stupid virus?
It’s another place where we can see what the actual morbidity rate is.
Exactly. The ultimate virus ‘model’.
This makes no sense to me. They are in a confined environment and obviously can’t go out in public. Don’t they test prison employees for the CV?
I guess the fastest way to get tested is to commit a crime.
1800 of the 2500 inmates have been tested.
Geez, maybe they should get early release? NOT!
1,828 Marion Correctional inmates+ 109 staff members have coronavirus.
38 are currently receiving outside hospital level care,
One staff death was announced on April 8. No inmates have died
Thats a death rate of 0.05%
The good news is that we are now getting useful datasets. If healthy people are not dying then we are in the clear. Target therapies (HCQ/Zinc/Zpac, Redevsmir, plasma if needed) to those who have pre existing conditions, older patients and those that develop severe symptoms or known to have a high exposure (ie Healthcare workers). Problem is that there is not enough right now to go around, nonetheless enough masks, sanitizer/soap, ppe ect. Maybe by the end of May we will have enough of it and we can reopen 80%.
Well that will skew the flattening curve”
Which is the point. Ohio was going to open, this cannot be allowed.
Yep well, time to let them out and roam the countryside!
I love it, sounds like some promising numbers. I hope to see a followup.
This could actually be a boon to discovering the true nature of this virus.
Assuming most of the perps are in pretty good shape, see how they do. Tell us how badly virus affects them, HOW LONG, and record how many die.
I saw that the cruise ship early on actually ddI not have that much death. These germ factories are actually a great way to check out what really happens, rather than all the hype and panic of assuming its the Black Death.
Sounds like a perfect time to release them. /S
The only curve any plan should be based on is the hospitalization curve.
I hope that's what Trump's plan uses.
anyone doing life should get zero treatment
Likely garbage data to rationalize more release of felons.
More reason to keep em locked up so they don’t get released and infect people outside, especially their families.
yes its widespread.....and begs the quesion....why lockdown?....why not isolate the vulnerable instead....and ONLY if they want to....
I’m not panicked about it, but I sure am doing everything I can do avoid catching it. I’m a senior citizen with substantial health risks.
Go ahead, get infrected, you’ll likely be fine. Do you care at all if you spread it to others?
