WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump warned China on Saturday that it should face consequences if it was “knowingly responsible” for the coronavirus pandemic, as he ratcheted up criticism of Beijing over its handling of the outbreak.
“It could have been stopped in China before it started and it wasn’t, and the whole world is suffering because of it,” Trump told a daily White House briefing.
It was the latest U.S. volley in a war of words between the world’s two biggest economies, showing increased strains in relations at a time when experts say an unprecedented level of cooperation is needed to deal with the coronavirus crisis.
“If it was a mistake, a mistake is a mistake. But if they were knowingly responsible, yeah, I mean, then sure there should be consequences,” Trump said. He did not elaborate on what actions the United States might take.
Trump and senior aides have accused China of a lack of transparency after the coronavirus broke out late last year in its city of Wuhan. This week he suspended aid to the World Health Organization accusing it of being “China-centric.”
Washington and Beijing have repeatedly sparred in public over the virus. Trump initially lavished praise on China and his counterpart Xi Jinping for their response. But he and other senior officials have also referred to it as the “Chinese virus” and in recent days have ramped up their rhetoric.

I spent many years working in the Far East. Westerners do not understand how powerful a cultural thing Saving Face is in those cultures.
For those who don’t know the concept, Saving Face, is a term describing Public Embarrassment and Shame. The higher up the food chain you are the Saving Face culture grows exponentially.
Thousands have died from the Coronavirus. The lying, conniving, secretive Communist Chinese caused the virus we all are sacrificing our life savings and health and American economy to battle.
They either mutated it as a deliberate biological warfare weapon, or irresponsibly allowed it to get out by animals or people spreading it outside the lab in Wuhan. They are outlaws.
They want to rule the world with a godless cruelty as sociopaths who will tell any lie to get ahead. They have repeatedly done this.
America is the last best hope. After we fall in the coming Depression or plague (God forbid) there will be no power to stop the evil Chinese Communists from ruling the world. They grabbed that open water area by building man-made islands and they now dare ships to pass there as it is now “their” territory. They killed thousands in Korea in the 1950s. Mao deliberately ordered the murder of millions. They have current concentration camps in China. They torture dissidents. They suppress and imprison and torture Christians.
We must fight the menace any way we can.
