Matterhorn in Swiss Alps Lit Up With American Flag, Messages of Hope During Coronavirus Crisis

Switzerland's famed Matterhorn mountain was illuminated with an American flag for a few hours as a symbol of solidarity during the coronavirus pandemic.

"Our thoughts are with all American people at this unprecedented time. We look forward to meeting again at the foot of the Matterhorn, we are all in this together," the tourism organization Zermatt Matterhorn wrote on its Facebook page.

Light artist Gerry Hofstetter projected the flag onto the 14,692-foot-tall peak in the Swiss Alps as part of a nightly series designed to show the town of Zermatt's support for everyone suffering and those fighting the pandemic.

Just think... Nowadays, in almost every American town, city, & county, this would result in a SWAT team showing up and handcuffing, zapping, and ticketing the person who did it...

I think you're overstating it. They wouldn't do that. Not unless they went to church last Sunday.

How many Swiss citizens does China have to kill before Switzerland wakes up?

I don’t even know if Swiss Army knives are still made in Switzerland.

I’m considering that the matter horn is just a touch taller than Mount Rainier. I’m trying to imagine somebody projecting the American Flag on the side of Mount Rainier and it’s blowing my mind.

In mass, Mt. Rainier is far far (far) larger than the Matterhorn. It would take a Helluva lot more projection to get the flag on Mt. Rainier.

What do you mean bigger? The Matterhorn is about 200 feet higher.

Better to project an image of Trump’s head on Rainier.

Seattle leftists would all crap their pants over it.

In sheer mass, the Matterhorn is a relatively small jutted peak on a high base, Mt. Rainier is a volcano, the base of the mountain rises from pretty close to sea level to it’s full height and the mountain itself is close to 60 miles across. By mass it is one of the most massive, if not the most massive mountains in the world (memory fails me if there might be one more massive). If you look at each mountain from a similar vantage point (and I have) say 40 miles away, Mt. Rainier would fill the entire view, Matterhorn is a jutted peak of rock very, very small in comparison. It may be higher in altitude but it is in overall size much smaller, it’d be like looking at Little Tahoma - the peak jutting out of the left side of Rainier, just highest in altitude.
