Something went wrong during the update process and we're trying to work it out now with their tech support dept. Hopefully, this will be very soon, meanwhile we may get security warnings on our site.
Hang in there.
If you try to donate but this message comes up stating,
The owner of freerepublic.com has not configured his reader’s hearts and minds website properly. For we (have to say we) regret to inform you that FreeRepublic.com has tested positive for a pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America and anti-Covid-19 hysteria conservative-19 infection, and must therefore be placed in quarantine.
Only essential surfing (reading stories from sites such as the New Your Times) is allowed, and if doing so then a distance of 6 feet from the monitor must be adhered to, and a mask placed over any mention of any “pro-God” type statements (such as in comments). ...by which those infected with this conservative-19 virus may spread this dire threat.
However, when I'm logged in, it seems that my danged cup of coffee seems to be cooling at a higher-than-normal rate over the past few hours...
I got online via Google clicking a button that it was an unsecure site. Microsoft doesn’t work or Firefox.
Got the warning too. Went to fr.com on the bing search engine and logged in just fine from there. Glad it wasnt just me.
Sometime back I bookmarked the security site at Google Chrome, but several weeks ago I noticed the bookmarked one was no longer secure. I kept trying on Google but couldn’t get a secure site. I hope once you get it fixed that I will be able to get a secure site.
Using Let’s Encrypt? right?
Some time back he made it a secure site and I was using it and bookmarked it on Google Chrome, but then one day I noticed it was no longer secure.
Does this mean that it’s not safe to donate on the server at the moment?
Best to hold off for now, until John gets the new SSL certificate installed. Thanks.
Yes it does. About a year or two ago Jim posted he was making it a secure site so people could safely donate. I bookmarked the secure site on Google Chrome but then several months ago I noticed it was no longer secure again.
Exactly how do we know that that was THE Jim Robinson?? :)
We have installed a new SHA-256 secure server certificate on freerepublic.com and NEW donate link
Whew!
I thought the deep state had put the mark on us here...lol
This server could not prove that it is www.freerepublic.com; its security certificate expired in the last day. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection. Your computer’s clock is currently set to Friday, April 17, 2020. Does that look right? If not, you should correct your system’s clock and then refresh this page.
Bump! Same solution I used. Works well.
Thanks for keeping on.
Ok. I had to use duckduckgo to get to Free Republic.
SSL certificates can be a pain in the ass. I’ve gotten good help from cPanel at least once regarding SSL even when verisign was useless. They’ve all gotten better.
Thanks for all you do.
