Gov. Andy Beshear says its unlikely that Kentucky will begin easing coronavirus crowd restrictions and business closures starting May 1, as Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said would happen in his state.
At Thursdays briefing, Beshear said that the state is looking at several different metrics for how to determine when its safe to start opening Kentuckys economy up, but that May 1 is a hard day to hit.
Its really gradual and phased in, every plan we see out there, Beshear said. Late May or June, we hope there are certainly some things Kentuckians will be able to be doing again.
Beshears response comes after he announced that Kentucky will be coordinating its coronavirus response with six other statesOhio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Beshear said that it will ultimately be up to each individual state to ease coronavirus restrictions, but that they will be sharing best practices and trying to coordinate responses.
But he also said that coronavirus is still on an upward trajectory in Kentucky, and that reopening businesses and allowing people to gather could lead to a rapid spread.
Theres only going to be new normal until we have a vaccine, Beshear said.
Public officials are facing mounting pressure to allow businesses to reopen, despite recommendations from public health experts.
On Wednesday, several protesters had gathered outside the Capitol where Beshear was holding his daily press briefing to call for him to ease restrictions.
Steven Stack, Kentuckys public health commissioner, said that he respected the protesters opinions, but they were putting people at risk by gathering.
The mass gathering that happened yesterday is exactly the kind of mass gathering that we have public health orders that say are prohibited right now, Stack said.
The virus is so incredibly contagious, one person can infect multiple people who then take the virus somewhere else and infect other people.
Beshear also announced that Kentucky will expand drive-thru coronavirus testing at Kroger locations next week, opening up sites in Madisonville, Paducah, Pikeville and Somerset.
The sites will be open Tuesday through Thursday, with the goal of conducting about 1,000 tests at each location over the course of those three days.
Beshear announced 159 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, for a total of 2,429. One of the new cases includes a 10 day old baby from Lincoln County.
There were 7 new Kentucky coronavirus deaths on Thursday, for a total of 129.
PA Gov. Wolf appears to have gone into hiding.
Calls to his office are being automatically forwarded to the PA Dept. of Health.
GOPe Henry apparently listens to the DNC more than other entities.
For the rat states its an easy equation. Most of them are heavy on those who get a check from the government. All the people in the wagon can live off of money borrowed by the government and eventually everyone else can go back to work to pay it off.
Tennessee could make a killing off Virginia and Kentucky if Comrade Lee would open the Volunteer State...
Republican states opening up around Kentucky will embolden the residents of Kentucky. Dem Governors think they can thwart Trump by staying shut. They will be singularly responsible for their states failing on a grander scale than Republican states. (Just meaning that all states are failing financially right now, as are the residents of ALL states)
‘The Democrat governors, in Kentucky and elsewhere, have made a gamble that voters will not remember their overreach in November 2022.’
I think it’s more a result of the old political credo that there’s no such thing as bad publicity...
the republicans have a significant majority in legislature in Kentucky. what the hell are they doing?
Is Kentucky a Right to Work State?
The fist of government grabs quickly, releases slowly.
It seems obvious. The Red States can’t open up soon enough.
I do NOT believe this “virus is so incredibly contagious”....I just don’t believe it...yes, in subways and close quarters it’s contagious, but sheesh...that’s kinda normal!!!
People here in Colorado have eased them on their own. Everyone should do the same.
i watched his presser the other day...Kentucky had 7 deaths in 24 hours..and 5 were in their mid-90’s....he went on and on like it was the worst human calamity hes ever seen...never seen such phoniness...make no mistake, the democrats think this is finally a way to turn America into a western European socialist state...
“...the democrats think this is finally a way to turn America into a western European socialist state...”
Then they are making their biggest mistake ever.
People are ready to get back to normal life, and the politicians that listen know that and are adjusting.
The one’s that don’t adjust will be overrun soon. People are losing patience. The ones that don’t will stay inside, that’s their choice, and some of them should of course.
Comrade Beshear needs to be recalled. Kentucky has not been hit nearly as hard as its surrounding states except West Virginia.
Late May or June, we hope there are certainly some things Kentuckians will be able to be doing again.
he also said that coronavirus is still on an upward trajectory in Kentucky, ...
Theres only going to be new normal until we have a vaccine, Beshear said.....
The IHME model has K’tucky plateauing at 12 deaths per day. On 29 April it goes down to 11 per day, so it’s not really on an upward trajectory. The model predicts 0 deaths by the end of May.
Bottom line is that this guv wants to shut down the state until there are 0 deaths from virus.
New normal = state tyranny
This Kentuckian didn’t want Beshear. I didn’t like his daddy and I don’t like him. Bevin wasn’t inspiring, to say the least, but he was still better than the leftist we have now.
I wasn’t a “buyer”. Nonetheless, I’m remorseful.
Yes.
