Earth is off to a hot start in 2020.
On the heels of the warmest January in recorded history and the second-warmest February, the planet has now logged its second-hottest March on record, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Thursday.
Its just the latest milestone in what NOAA says is a clear, long-term warming trend. And though there are nine months left in the year, the agencys models are already suggesting that theres a good chance that 2020 could end up as the warmest year since record-keeping began in 1880.
It does look like theres a better-than-half probability that we will finish the year warmest on record, Deke Arndt, chief of the monitoring branch at NOAAs National Centers for Environmental Information, said Thursday in a news briefing about the agencys latest monthly climate report.
The recent temperature records show that even amid natural variations, the planet is continuing to warm at an accelerated pace.
The warm temperatures shrank Arctic sea ice to its 11th-lowest extent, covering 251,000 square miles.
Arctic sea ice tends to expand to its largest footprint over the month of March, Arndt said. This year, it was small.
Long-term warming is a lot like riding on an escalator the longer you stay on the escalator, the higher you go, he said. El Niño is like standing tall and crouching down as youre riding up that escalator. While were not at the stand-as-tall-as-you-can El Niño stage, were not exactly crouching down either.

They’re predicting 3-5 inches of snow in eastern Massachusetts tomorrow morning.Snow at this time of year isn’t unheard of but is quite uncommon around here.
No. You were right the first time. Global warring.
By the way, satellite global temperatures were DOWN substantially in March from Dec, Jan, Feb to less than 1/2 of one degree above the baseline set in the mid 1970s.
But that is specifically why the best “average global temperature “ is from the University of Alabama Huntsville satellite readings. They get the world temperature readings across oceans, deserts, plains, savannah, and the cities. NOAA reads cities.
And here in the Laurel Highlands of W. Pennsylvania, we’ve had snow every day for the last three days. It disappears by afternoon, but it’s still happening.
LOL!
Welcome back! 5th generation Texan here. I will never leave!
... April 17 update: We had a good frost last night at 28-degrees Fahrenheit. We covered the zuchs, so we should be okay. It changes just about every day! We call it the “weather”, liberals who get grant money and liberals who want to control us call it “man-induced climate change” or “global warming” - depending on the “weather”.
Where did this warming happen? Certainly not were I live. It was another cold, shitty March.
6th generation here, I was in San Diego for Marine Corps boot camp end of April to July 2nd - when it was over in july it was 75 degrees, I knew that day I was moving there, after 2 years knew I would eventually move back home, California real estate allowed me to retire early. Dang good to be back even with all of this business going on.

Do you notice they always talk about Artic ice. They never seem to mention that huge continent on the south pole.
Is that because the ice down in Antarctic is not shrinking. At one point I seem to remember that the Antarctic ice mass was growing larger.
“...models are already suggesting...”
“...could end up as...”
Typical weasel words and phrases that dominate left wing propaganda.
What a boatload of crap! Our lakes are still frozen, there’s still snow on the ground and it snowed yesterday. Overnight temps are still below freezing. Granted, this is ND, but by now the daily avg temps should be 10 to 15 degrees warmer.
Someone tell Michigan.
It is literally snowing here as I type this.
Lets go back tot he crises where we didn’t have places to put our garbage, and we would be up to our necks in it.
What happened to that crises?
It was 56 degrees here in Jacksonville, FL this morning. Barely mad it to 70 yesterday. Damn hot for Florida, don’t you think.
Moron reporter.
I’m waiting for them to argue “there’s been a correction in temps due to the shutdown, it’s PROOF that CO2 is harming temps - ALL MAN MADE!”. After all, don’t let a good crisis go to waste ;p
...my answer would be “show me your model, how does it react to this short term decline of CO2?”. ...pretty sure what the answer would be, crickets.
Chuck Fina and all the Chinazi’s (ChinaXi’s)!
They’ve already claimed less pollution.
But didn’t change temperatures.
A lot of nuclear bombs were detonated in the 40s-960s.
Didn’t spike the temperatures the way they are claiming man can
Yeah, April is looking like the coldest ever too......by now should be getting into 70’s in the daytime - but nope, still in 60’s........
