A New York woman with coronavirus symptoms died last week after being prescribed a drug cocktail with known cardiac side effects, and family members say she was not tested for COVID-19 or for heart problems before receiving the medication. The familys experience suggests that at least some physicians are prescribing hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin drugs President Donald Trump has promoted to treat the coronavirus outside of hospital settings, underscoring why major medical organizations including the American Heart Association have issued warnings about the drugs potential to trigger heart arrhythmia in some patients.
In early April, Ligia, a 65-year-old Queens resident, was given the drug by her general practitioner after she reported having a bad cough, fever and shortness of breath. Ligias last name is being withheld on the request of her children.
While Ligias symptoms were consistent with those of COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, she was never tested for the virus, her brother-in-law, Lee Levitt, told NBC News. Ligia received the drug after speaking by phone with her doctor, Levitt said. She was never evaluated in person and received no heart screening or warning about the potential side effects. It was handed over like a bag of cookies, Levitt said. NBC News made two attempts to reach Ligias doctor for comment. A man who answered the office phone and identified himself as the doctor then said thered been a misunderstanding and offered to take a message. Levitt acknowledged that the family does not know that the drug caused Ligias death. The family has not received a death certificate.

And...?
"children" seems out of place for a 65 year old woman. I would think 'sons', 'daughters' or family would be more appropriate.
They just cant help themselves, much rather die from the virus than take a risk with meds that might save my life. Hey its a gamble anyone would want to have when your are facing death. The scumedia has its own agenda
Better Call Saul! ;)
LOL!!!!!
NBC is a parody of itself. They would have gone to Mars to find this story.
There is always a trade off. If a drug cures 10,000, but kills one, do you ban the drug?
Levitt acknowledged that the family does not know that the drug caused Ligias death. The family has not received a death certificate. But lets run the story anyway.
Youve read part of the excerpt, which is better than some here, but now read some more.
Same thing with my grandmother. After many years on medication due to cancer the side effects of one of the medications is what likely caused her death. She can have either died years prior due to cancer or Spent nearly a dozen relatively healthy years taking medication.
No. Actually the way the side effect took him was quick and merciful. They were beginning to talk to him about experimental pain clinics. God works in mysterious ways.
Where’s the study demonstrating this claim?
anecdotal!?!

8 out of 10 deaths reported in the U.S. have been in adults 65 years old and older
insufficient info— is it established as a proven fact that the patient informed the doctor correctly that she had a history of heart disease, or that the doctor did not inform the patient that taking hcq had an associated risk? if not, why not? if no prior history of heart disease, then why is the doctor at fault? why are these simple questions not asked and answered in the “news article”?
Exactly, the article states she was taking the medications and died while on the medications but they do not know what the actual cause of death was. It is simply a hit piece on Trump because NBC cant allow any potential good news to come out during the coronavirus outbreak.
Bull bull bull
I take it
Nuff said
Isn’t this just ‘anecdotal evidence’...???
She neber received no this, no that. The family is going for a lawsuit, Show me the Benjamins!
Would they feel better if he would have just died of the virus?
