SPRINGFIELD, Ill – Illinois is reporting 1,346 new cases over the last 24 hours and 80 additional deaths due to COVID-19. This brings the state totals to 24,593 cases and 948 deaths.

Governor J.B. Pritzker focused much of his daily briefing on the financial impact of COVID-19 on the state. He said, “You don’t have to be an epidemiologist to see that the virus is going to hit our budget hard.”

Illinois budget experts estimate that there will be a $2.7 billion shortfall of revenues for the rest of fiscal year 2020 and a $4.6 billion dollar shortfall for the next fiscal year.

The state of Illinois was a financial dumpster fire before anyone ever heard of the virus.

Printing money and feeding it to them is like giving heroin to an addict.

that’s the key to opening all these states up ... they are bleeding cash like crazy, revenue is drying up.

Trump and his team know this.

If JB Prickster would stop eating for a week and live off his plentiful fat stores, the State of Illinois could close that “budget gap.”

Not to worry. When it’s all over they’ll just raise taxes to make up for what was lost.

I’m sure big sources of state tax revenues are:

1. income tax — revenue is way down due to so many employees having been laid off.

2. sales tax — revenue is way down because retail sales are way down, due to stores being closed.

3. gas tax — people are driving a lot less, and buying a lot less gas, because of stay at home orders, and with big numbers who still have jobs working from home.

Part of the economic fallout from all of this, will be states running deficits. The fall in revenues, combined with the same or increased spending, guarantees this.

Will there be pressures from the Democrats to have the federal government bail out the states?

Yes that is why the rats have dug in for a boatload of money for the state governments in the small businesses bill. Without it states will have to find a way to re-open. The rats can’t allow this because the economy will rebound unless they can keep us closed through May.

They can raise taxes all they want, but if people aren’t working and business is closed so what. What investors would buy Illinois bonds, only the Fed if they are permitted by congress.

Illinois budget issues have MUCH more to do the Chicago and Dem politicians than it does Covid-19.

The state after successive tax increases of 66% and 33% in 5 years have been deep underwater for a decade and that has nothing to do with the virus.

Lots of (most) government employees need to be laid off until the citizens of the state can return to work.

Maybe, Governor, if your budget wasn’t so inflated with waste and Democrat social programs, and if you weren’t forcing so many citizens and businesses out of the state due to high taxes, there wouldn’t be as much of a shortfall.

I don’t even think they can pay Lotto winners. And the prick wants the state to vote in a November referendum for a graduated income tax to help fund their scams. I’m sure shitcago will accommodate.

Too bad, so sad. Yet another broke Democrat state trying to suck up our federal tax dollars to fill the holes in their budget....if they have a budget.
