Anthony Fauci looks to be skating on thin ice with President Trump, despite — or perhaps because of — a growing sense that he is the most trusted expert on the coronavirus crisis.
The White House moved on Monday to squash suggestions that Fauci could be ousted from the president’s task force on the crisis.
And Fauci himself sought to shore up his position during the White House press briefing, when he walked back remarks he had made at the weekend.
During a CNN interview on Sunday, Fauci had suggested that mitigation measures would have been more effective had they been put in place earlier but that there had been “pushback” against them.
After Trump invited Fauci to the lectern within minutes of beginning Monday’s press briefing, the doctor said that his reference to “pushback” was “the wrong choice of words.”
He also said that Trump “went to the mitigation” the first time he was asked to do so.
The remarks came after ominous signs for Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
On Sunday, Trump had retweeted a message that included the words “time to #FireFauci.”
Two Republican lawmakers wrote an op-ed for the Washington Examiner on Saturday asserting that Fauci was guilty of “a special degree of tone deafness” in the way he spoke about the economic toll of the lockdown that has affected the nation.
The lawmakers, Rep. Andy Biggs (Ariz.) and Rep. Ken Buck (Colo.), also wrote that Fauci “can no longer be one of the primary voices in this crisis, especially not after his assertion that the economic effects and devastation from this shutdown are merely inconvenient.”

The nanosecond he gets fired, he’ll be testifying in the House at the next impeachment hearing.
Send him back to whatever nursing home they dragged him out of... He won’t last a week, like many of the seniors in the world won’t because long term care and seniors homes are ground zero for this virus.
Ground zero number two... Hospitals. Stop sending seniors to hospitals and start sending doctors and ventilators to them, in their homes and facilities.
Yesterday all Fauci said was he didn’t mean what he said the way it sounded. Then he stood there for a couple of hours. If he no longer has anything to say at future briefings then we’ll know.

The Hill. The rats love this guy for a reason, he is a rat saboteur. He loves CNN, MSNB and talks about who will play him SNL. He fed the the NYT times the we must not open doomsday report and stood there with his little smirk when they ambushed Trump with it. Then today shot his mouth off today about May 1st putting Trump in box.
Yet Trump won’t dump him.

Yup. Best bet: assign him a super important task investigating why coronavirus is racist and coming up with sensitivity training for it.
The guy has been wrong so many times.

Fauci is a weasel. He even looks like a weasel.
The guy is 79. He won’t be around much longer. You know he’d love to go out in blaze of democrat/DS glory. Perfect example of “keep your enemies closer”. I say Trump keeps him around but freezes him out. I’m sure the president isn’t interested in his reopening the economy models anyway.
Fauci is a good person for medical and scientific advice.
Just be aware that contact tracing works well for HIV. This virus spreads too fast to base our health security on contact tracing.
Our defense against this virus must be physical barrier based.

I personally don’t have much of a problem with this guy. He’s a scientist and views everything through that lens. What’s problematic is that the media, in it’s frenzy to create turmoil, wants to desperately invent a view of conflict between Fauci and Trump that doesn’t really exist.
Trump offers hope and leadership. Fauci offers science and caution. Neither conflicts the other unless you view it through the gauzy filter of media manipulation.
Can you imagine the uproar if Trump were to fire Fauci from the task force?
Sometimes, some people in various positions, are just untouchable. This is one such time. By virtue of his status as an expert on infectious diseases, to dismiss him would be considered an impeachable offense by the liberals and media, if not by Nancy Pelosi.
