Two Iraq War veteran brothers converted their distillery into a hand sanitizer factory and hired furloughed workers in order to serve their community during the coronavirus crisis.
We figured out a model thats working so far and were able to keep all the donations going. Keep our lights on, keep our employees paid, and were up to 80 mostly furloughed bartenders and restaurant workers, Travis Whitmeyer told Fox & Friends First.
Well keep doing it as long as we need it, Whitmeyer said.

Space City Vodka is a Texas premium vodka 6x distilled, to obtain the highest purity level, neutral grain spirit, that exceeds 190 proof coming off of the still. The Vodka is then filtered through activated carbon for an exceptionally smooth, crisp, and clean taste. We finish it off with our reverse osmosis water process to cut it down to 80 proof, to make it the most refreshing vodka Texas has to offer.
I pick up a gallon of ethanol every week or two.
Unfortunately it’s mixed with nine gallons of gas, to the detriment of my family, coworkers and car.
Old Black Bear Brewing in Madison Al is producing Shine-O-Tizer. Bought a couple of bottles at Ace Hardware this week.
I keep hearing about these small distilleries converting to making hand sanitizer. Don’t we already have massive distilleries cranking out trainloads of ethanol to mix with gasoline?
190 proof is 95% pure alcohol
This is vodka? wow
If they get it down to 80 proof, then that is only 40% alcohol and the rest is water.
“This is vodka? wow”
Yes. Most places add in their own flavorings but. no mention of that here.
I like that because it talkes back some of the market from Johnson and Johnson and P&G and keeps it local.
Problem is that the FDA is restricting such hand sanitizer sales unless you add a bittering agent - which is hard to get.
Better than Titos ?
“Better than Titos ?”
They are both the same except for added flavors. I don’t understand the big deal over Tito’s.
Isn’t EverClear 150 proof?.
Ethanol = ethyl alcohol
............
It has always been continuously available in all our liquor stores in WA as Everclear, 190 proof = 95%. $20 a fifth.
............
Mix it with aloe and glycerin, also available. Denature it with isoproplyl (rubbing) alcohol. Here’s the government approved formula:

Better yet used it for octane booster once.
My ex room mate made punch called “Handshake”
He had a gallon jar to which he would a lot of crushed ice, some sugar, a pint of everclear and fruit juice and fruit. I don’t remember what but seem to recall oranges and lemons and maraschino cherries.
He would wrap it in a dish towel and shake it. When the towel froze to the jar, it was done. It was deep deception in a glass.
After drinking a glass, suddenly for the date, it was all over
In some states, ever lear is 151 proof. Most states its 190 proof.
190 proof (95%) is as pure as ordinary distillation will allow. Fuel ethanol goes through a molecular sieve to get it to 99+%.
Titos tastes like sugar, to me.
I tried it in a martini, a few years ago.
I also tried Cinco and it wasnt as sweet tasting.
Maybe the difference between corn and wheat.
It was the 1st Hand Made small batch Vodka and had a massive Marketing Job that worked well.
I happened to be running a Liquor Store when Titos came out. The Salesman came by the store and had Samples for all the Managers and Employees to take home and try, it was on Sale CHEAP to entice the Public to try it. That combined with the Sales People asking if the Customer had tried it and told them if they tried it and didnt like it that the Individual Salesperson would buy back the unused from them PERSONALLY. The TABC didnt allow the Stores to Refund ANYTHING Open or not. We had 1 Person return a 750ml.
Corazón Tequila was also a new one. Came in Blanco, Reposada and Añjeo. Blanco is an amazingly smooth and clean Taste. Reposada has a slight smoky taste but still a Great smooth and clean taste. The Añjeo is like sipping Iced Tea !!! No burn of any kind !!! As Col. Potter would say theres not enough ooooooos in smooooooth to describe it. NO NEED TO GET MIXED WITH ANYTHING!!!
I made up a Margarita Kit that was a bottle of The Blanco or Reposada, a bottle of Grand Marnier, 1 Lg can of Frozen Limeade, a Salt Tray, a couple of Fresh Limes and the Mixology List. Again if the Customer didnt like it then it had the same buy back Option as the Titos did. Never had even one (1) complaint of Return.

If folks can repurpose distilleries to make the hand sanitizer, then an alternative to the bittering agent can be found.
