On Monday morning I had a delivery to my apartment from the nearby off-licence - or liquor store, as they say over here.
And I put a jokey picture on Twitter of a bottle of gin and eight bottles of tonic, with the caption that at least I had the next week sorted.
After leaving the White House Briefing Room on Monday evening following a marathon two-hour 24-minute press conference, I felt I could have knocked off the whole lot in one sitting.
This has been the most dizzying, jaw-dropping, eyeball-popping, head-spinning news conference I have ever attended. And I was at Bill Clinton's news conference in 1998 when he faced the press for the first time over his relationship with Monica Lewinsky.
I was at this president's first White House gathering when he called me "another beauty". I was in Helsinki when he had his first news conference with Vladimir Putin, and seemed to prefer to believe the Russian leader over his own security and intelligence chiefs on interference in the 2016 election.
What made last night's encounter unique was the context. And secondly, this was, if you like, a distillation - all the talk of gin, I think, forced me to use that word - in one news conference of what three and a half years of Donald Trump has been like to cover.
Donald Trump walked into the briefing room with scores to settle with the media. This wasn't about the dead, the desperately sick, the people fearful of catching the virus. This was about him. And more particularly his profound sense of grievance that the media has been critical of his handling of Covid-19.

Trump had to shut her down 5-6 times, towards the end when she asked why nothing was being done about what China had done...
Trump replied, how do you know we haven’t done anything the proceeded to lecture her and ended by saying even if had done something he wouldn’t have told her...it was comical.
My favorite moment was when she so stupidly suggested that Trump wasn’t doing anything about making the Chicoms pay for what they’ve done, and with a slight smile he leaned over the podium, glared at her, and said, “How would you know?”
That was epic, and made her look exactly like the foolish little girl that she is.

I wonder if Trump knew about her husband’s ties to China when he asked that.
Trump calls them fake, shows mountains of evidence that they are fake, and how do they respond? By reporting more fake news. You can’t fix stupid.

That press conference was a political carpet bombing run.
Jon Sopel is a light weight who doees not truly understand the plenary emergency powers of the President under the Constitution.
We are far past “but the constitution says only the governors can do that” etc.Presient Trump has guarded individual freedoms far more astutely than say a Barack Obama would.
The fact is that there are federally instituted declarations of emergency in each state of the Union and its terratories. Therefore it is not business as usual.
President Trump has signaled in his dsapnking of the untruthful MSM, that not only does he have such emergency power to open up the country, but that he would indeed use it if he had to. But he does not think he will have to.
That has the lefty socialist spinning around in their office chairs so fast they can barely write.Right where the president wants them.
And the president will make deals with each and every governor. With a very few of them they will have to be deals the governors cannot refuse.

Wish I’d seen PDJT yesterday. By all accounts he took the gloves off and revealed who the enemy really is. Will have to wait until 6:00 p.m. to raise a toast; daily discipline is important.
