Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego is a United States Marine Corps military installation in San Diego, California. It lies between San Diego Bay and Interstate 5, adjacent to San Diego International Airport and the former Naval Training Center San Diego. MCRD San Diego's main mission is the initial training of enlisted recruits living west of the Mississippi River. Over 21,000 recruits are trained each year. The Depot also is the home to the Marine Corps' Recruiter School and Western Recruiting Region's Drill Instructors School.

The mission of the Recruit Depot and the Western Recruiting Region is to exercise operational control of enlisted recruiting operations in the 8th, 9th, and 12th Marine Corps Districts; to provide reception, processing, and recruit training for enlisted personnel following initial entry into the United States Marine Corps; and to produce a basically trained United States Marine embodied with the fighting spirit, core values and esprit de corps which have ensured our Corps’ success for over 240 years.

CAmcrdsandiego6

The depot is also home to the Drill Instructor School which teaches sergeants, staff sergeants and gunnery sergeants what it takes to make Marines; and Recruiters School which teaches noncommissioned officers and staff NCO's how to find America's best and brightest and bring them into the ranks.

CAmcrdsandiego5

Recruit training for those enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, includes a thirteen-week process during which the recruit becomes cut off from the civilian world and must adapt to a Marine Corps lifestyle. During training, drill instructors train recruits in a wide variety of subjects including weapons training, Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, personal hygiene and cleanliness, close order drill, and Marine Corps history.

The training emphasizes physical fitness, and recruits must attain a minimum standard of fitness to graduate by passing a Physical Fitness Test. Recruits must also meet minimum combat-oriented swimming qualifications, qualify in rifle marksmanship with the M16A4 service rifle, and pass a 54-hour simulated combat exercise known as "The Crucible".

Healing Words

Bible in a Year:

Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Proverbs 16:24

A recent study has shown that encouraging words from a health-care provider can help patients recuperate faster from their ailments. A simple experiment exposed volunteer study participants to a skin allergen to make them itch and then compared the reactions between those who received assurance from their physician and those who didn’t. Patients who received encouragement from their doctors had less discomfort and itching than their counterparts.

The writer of Proverbs knew how important encouraging words are. “Gracious words” bring “healing to the bones,” he wrote (Proverbs 16:24). The positive effect of words isn’t limited to our health: when we heed the wisdom of instruction, we’re also more likely to prosper in our efforts (v. 20). So too encouragement buoys us for the challenges we face now and may encounter in the future.

We may not yet fully understand why or even how much wisdom and encouragement bring strength and healing to our daily lives. Yet the cheers and guidance of our parents, coaches, and colleagues seem to help us endure difficulty and steer us toward success. Similarly, the Bible brings us encouragement when we face trials, equipping us to bear up under even the most unthinkable circumstances. Help us, God, to be strengthened by Your wisdom and to, in turn, offer the healing and hope of “gracious words” to those You’ve placed in our lives.

Reflect & Pray

Who has spoken “gracious words” into your life? Why is it vital for you to share words of encouragement with others?

Dear Father, thank You for Your words of healing and hope.

Short sleeve shirts, it must be warm there. It is snowing here and supposed to be 4 degrees tonight. Keep your bat virus mask high and tight.

Howdy, LUV.

Everything’s still standing, fortunately. The wind got really bad AFTER the storms had passed and the howling freaked me and the acts out. I stepped outside for a couple of minutes and was almost knocked down a couple of times. LOL

After about a half hour things calmed down again. We’d had wind all day as thunderstorms rolled through one after another but nothing like we had early this morning. It was insane.

I feel bad for all the folks who were caught up in the tornados that ripped through the south yesterday.

That is intense! I’m glad the high winds didn’t last long or you might have lost some trees! And then...MORE rain?? Like you needed it. LOL!
