New York Working on Reopening Plan With 5 Other States
Epoch Times ^ | 04/13/2020 | Zachary Steiber

New York officials are working on a reopening plan with five other states, including New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Delaware, as the hardest-hit state in the nation starts to see a decline in hospitalizations and in new cases.

The six governors announced on April 13 the creation of a regional advisory committee that will explore how “to restore the economy and get people back to work.”

“We cannot act on our own,” New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said in a statement on Twitter. “We must be smart and tactical in how our region comes out of this, or else we’ll be right back to square one.”

The plan will start with easing the isolation measures that have restricted people across all six states to remain largely at home unless they’re designated essential workers. The next phase will be increasing economic activity, in part by adding new groups to the list of essential workers.

Officials want to introduce widespread testing for the virus, as well as antibody testing, which would detect if an individual once had the virus. As many as 25 percent of patients never show symptoms but can still transmit the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus, even if they’re asymptomatic or presymptomatic. Taking temperatures and asking people to wear masks and gloves will be key to the reopening plan, which will be designed by public health and economic experts, not politicians, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo told reporters in Albany.

While the six states won’t be able to be fully in sync, “to the extent we can coordinate, we should and we will,” he said, adding: “The wider the geographic area for that plan, the better.

President Trump should forbid Democrat governors to reopen their states. Then they would fall all over themselves to open up as quickly as possible and CNN would immediately start demanding to know why every state wasn’t completely open last week!

Unlike the western states, this could be a good thing. They acknowledge that their needs are different than the rest of the nation. So if Trump coaxes other states to unlock earlier than these guys, they really can't complain about favoritism.

On the other hand, if they call it wrong and go too early, then they also will not be a position to blame Trump, not that they won't try.

In my opinion, New York and New Jersey brought some of the severe problems onto themselves. They really should be treating the lock down differently that everyone else. Between them, they comprise half the U.S. deaths.

i hope all the Southern states band together too and open up soon. We can all play this game. I’ve had enough sheltering and distancing. Let’s get back to work.

Let’s get back to work.

Indeed. We've all had a nice long holiday from reality. Now it's back to the real world.

I’m sorry but New York cannot re-open until there are no new cases of COVID-19. Since the state has the highest number of cases and deaths, if they can save only one life it is worth it to keep New York State shut down!

I DID! After listening to Crying Cuomo, the main stream press, the talking heads and the Lib politicians, then NY State needs to stay closed. If they do not follow their own concerns, then they are just hypocrites.

We regret to announce the unexpected suicides of governors Cuomo, Murphy, Lamont, Wolf, Raimondo, and Carney.

They were good people and we are trusting the those states to replace then with good, worthy people, who we are looking forward to working with to promptly end this quarantine is an orderly fashion...

Call me a skeptic. I sense this is a political move.

From a Yahoo Finance article (link below), “......The announcements of these multi-state coalitions came shortly after President Donald Trump said on Twitter that the decision to reopen the government would be determined by the White House, creating a potential sticking point in deciding the ultimate path to easing weeks-long social distancing measures across the nation.......”

An East Coast and West Coast coalition of Democratic State Governors. A curious timing. I am sure there is nothing to see.

Then again the Constitution's Commerce clause give both Interstate and International commerce and trade control to the federal government. I suspect there may be political mischief afoot.

Thier goal is the opposite actually, but I believe Trump is heading them off at the pass, hence his tweet this morning.

They are aware of two things:

- If they balk and delay "just because", their political careers are probably over.

- Under current conditions and emergency declarations - every State and Province and Federal - the President really does have plenary powers - something many of them insisted he use with the Defense Production Act...

If Obama were still around, I'd be terrified, but President Trump hates having to use all the power he has and I trust him.
