Keeping the west coast economies constrained, preventing their obtaining herd immunity in 2020, insuring that either massive shutdowns are continued into 2021 or a large new wave of infections begins again from late 2020 into 2021.
You can only obtain herd immunity. You chose to get it as early as possible, or you need to get it sooner or later. Total death rates from 1st infection to herd immunity not likely massively different with either approach. But one approach requires destroying the economy and needing to rebuild it. The other doesn’t.
Message to Trump. Screw you, we want to make sure economy stays down so you are defeated in November. These governors could care less about public health. Bring on depression and suicide. This pact is totally political.

Three Blue States working together against our President. What could go right?
Nowhere in this very lengthy statement/pact is the mention of helping the economic well-being of the people (other than the phrase: “approach for reopening our economies”). Disgusting, but unfortunately not surprising.
They should elect a Western States Czar.

It’s all a bluff. If some states start opening the libs cannot stand the pressure not to open. Wait and see.
Trump declared a national emergency....he should come on and say that the national emergency is oover and the states should open up the economy for the people....

Those are liberals, for the most part. If the wise and wonderful government demands it, they will comply.
Sure feels like a civil war in the making
This could be the makings of a whole new communist country comprised of what was once California, Oregon and Washington. I wonder what it will be called; maybe the West Coast Gulag.
The eastern half to two thirds of all three states are red as they can be. They’re hastening the creation of a new conservative state or two.
There is going to be a rush to re-open soon. By end of April, most states will have been closed 30 days and state/county tax coffers will start to dry up. Then, as budgets are reworked and state/county workers lose planned raises and maybe even furloughed, we will open in a hurry.
I’m drafting an open letter to our gov demanding her resignation on that very topic.
These type of regional alliances are going to become more widespread as states compete with each other for PPE and other resources in the open market.
Gulf coast states may be next.
