New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday the state is “controlling the spread” of the coronavirus, and it appears that “the worst is over ... if we continue to be smart going forward.”
But he pointed to a flattening of the daily death toll, the flattening in the net number of hospitalizations and a drop in the number of people on ventilators as evidence that radical measures such as the shuttering of nonessential businesses have helped to contain the virus.
Cuomo said he will make an announcement later Monday about plans for reopening the state in conjunction with some other governors.
He said he and governors from Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Rhode Island have been talking “for the past couple of days, about coming up with, how do we come up with a reopening plan? And can we work together on a reopening plan?”
But Cuomo noted that the daily number of new deaths has dropped a bit from some recent days, when new fatalities had topped 750 people each day.
In pointing to the hospitalization rate and the use of ventilators dropping, Cuomo said, “the curve” of the spread of the coronavirus in the Empire State “continues to flatten.”

Mass quarantines is not smart. Targeted quarantines of those infected have always been the sensible option.
Even those from the middle ages knew that. Ask about the leper colonies.
So the PA economy has to go on hold until the NY governor says we can reopen? How about we ban anyone from NY from coming into PA until NY is under control.
How about lifting the ban on HCQ prescriptions, Andy?

One problem. The longer the "smart," the more likely that we will have a New York City like in the movie: "Escape from New York".
And then Cuomo and his running dogs won't matter in the least.

Media will give him a pass for reopening NY, but crucify Trump tomorrow for the same thing.
He is having his little press conference along with the Governors of Connecticut and New Jersey discussing how it’s too early to even think about opening the economy.
Then they can stay closed while the other 47 open up.
I’m just glad to hear him talk about reopening.
They are trying to get ahead of Trumps presser. I’m hoping when he discusses opening the economy he says it will be up to Governors based on case loads but obviously New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will be the last to open.
