He's on-the-air. One of America's very best Talk Radio Show Hosts, IMO: Chris Plante from WMAL in DC. His show is the "prep work" for many other shows. And, unlike the others, he pulls no punches, tells it like it is and doesn't take any guff from liberal, leftist or commie/socialist/fascist callers. He's the guy we'd all like to sit down with and have a cheeseburger and a cold one, while talking about the state of America, and the crazies who are pulling the strings, behind-the-scenes. Get a fresh refill of your favorite coffee, a warm croissant, the Hoppe's Cleaning Kit for one of your favorite firearms, some mags to load, hang your "Trump 2020" sign in the front window, and settle-in for the next 3hrs of listening fun.

Chris Plante joined the WMAL team after 17 years at CNN including nearly ten years assigned to the Pentagon covering the U.S. military and intelligence community.

Chris was assigned variously as Pentagon Correspondent, Senior Producer for National Security Affairs, Military Affairs Producer and as an assignment editor. He travelled extensively for CNN covering defense related stories from Saudi Arabia in 1990 and Bosnia in 1995, to Vietnam, Indonesia, Africa and the remote corners of the former Soviet Union.

Chris received the Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio and Television News Directors’ Association (RTNDA) for his reporting from the Pentagon during the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001.

Chris formerly hosted his own program on the The American Life television network, and nowadays makes frequent appearances on various cable news networks including the Fox News Channel, and the Fake News CNN and MSNBC.

In his time with WMAL, Chris has helped raise significant amounts of money for charities like the Fisher House Foundation.

Representing the third generation of his family that has been “on-the-air” in radio and television, Chris brings a unique world-view, and largely conservative/libertarian values to his role as talk show host on WMAL.

Marching in lock-step with no politician, Chris says his political party is “Practi-crat”, “… because of my distinctly practical political leanings”.

Almost 3” of rain overnight here and cloudy today. Kona Hawaiian Coffee makes it worth getting-up and getting going.

I smell another impeachment coming from Schiff & Co...

I think it was a FReeper who turned me on to Chris a couple of years ago. I’ve been a mostly regular listener since. A few thoughts:

-Like much of talk radio - sports or politics - they are guilty of ‘teaching to the test’ meaning the industry’s radio ratings system emphasizes the quarter hour. As a result, the typical ploy is to have a first quarter hour lasting about 20 min then a short one with half-past-the-hour news in many markets, then a long, then a short.

The problem, unfortunately, is that actual content barely cracks the 30 min mark (33-34 usually). That’s a lot of fat to trim.

Radio’s defense is that many people are casual/intermittent listeners so heavy commercial load doesn’t hurt but that viewpoint is out of date in my opinion. Many more people are dedicated listeners ie at least one full hour and often the entire show thanks to internet streaming, phone apps and the like.

I’ve learned to adapt over time, digitally recording streams and using some basic audio editing tools to cut the breaks and noise thus saving time and sanity. It’s nice that so many shows offer podcasts in the case of Plante (or WMAL) they merely post the 3 recorded hours with no edits.

A while back Plante’s longtime producer passed away - he had excellent music taste played during ‘bumpers’ - alternative and indie bands and the like.

As for Plante himself he’s certainly energetic and quick on his feet. In ‘normal time’ some of his segments/shows can be repetitive...like Rush he tends to play the greatest hits (soundbites) although Plante does it more for comedic effect. In times of crisis Plante is often much sharper - skewering the media and DC Dems with abandon.

Living in the District would put me over the edge. He seems to cope.

I’ve been listening to WMAL for decades. They have always had the best lineup.

We got some nice, much needed rain last night in NW Florida. It was supposed to miss us, but we got a good soaking with no tornadoes.

I was just watching this poor guy in Mississippi. He ran up his driveway away from the tornado, almost got hit by a giant falling pine, then jumped in the lake, caught on tape too.

All those commercial breaks is how they pay the bills. I have a handy MUTE Button n my keyboard and can get rid of those annoying ads.

A fellow FReeper turned me on to CP, 5-6yrs, and I’ve listened live or to podcasts ever since.

Perhaps but if half your broadcast hour is ads then it suggests a ‘grind joint’ approach ie sell em cheap and stack em up probably in combination with the ratings shell game referred to earlier.

As I mentioned I don’t listen to the ads at all (nor do most podcast listeners) so if they’re factoring those into revenue figures they are lying to themselves (at best) and others (at worst).

The ‘hey folks didja know’ spoken word ads are also part of the mix.

Graphical representation of a broadcast hour minus breaks and plugs.

You could drive a truck through those gaps!

Ain’t nobody got time in their life for that creep. He just jealous that he can’t get any face time.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bigger loser, giant L, creep, slimy, little worm than Adam Schiff in my life!
