A U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer sailed through the sensitive Taiwan Strait on Friday, the U.S. and Taiwan militaries said, the same day that Chinese fighter jets drilled in waters close to the democratically-ruled island.

That probably cleared out the straits. Everyone is afraid of collision.

Well, the US had to do something since China incapacitated our aircraft carrier with their Wuhan Virus. And the whole world knows about it because Captain Big Mouth emailed the event to everybody and his mother.

Huh, what a coincidence. Chinese corona virus is released on the world, and Chine decides to get frisky in the Taiwan striaghts.
I’m sure it’s a coincidence though.

Sure, we have 10. Of the 10, 2 are offline in the shipyards in overhaul leaving 8. On average 1/3rd are deployed, 1/3rd are just coming off deployment and the last 1/3rd are in workups for their next deployment. You’ll notice that 8 doesn’t divide by 3 evenly. Also, the other potential replacement carrier would have had greater exposure to COVID-19 at that point.

"...that Chinese fighter jets drilled in waters ..." Dang! First the chicoms attack us with a virus... Now they've developed planes that operate in the water...
Now wonder they seem to be getting rid of that carrier that's on fire... Their planes no longer need carriers to land on...

The Chicoms did “sink” our carrier. They were nice enough to leave it intact but a carrier with zero crew is a $4.5 Billion dollar piece of useless floating metal.

Two in the Indian Ocean. The Reagan is undergoing scheduled repairs, so while home ported in Japan, it’s not available. The rest are in either San Diego or Puget Sound area, one of which would be designated a surge carrier in my day anyway.

According to the US Navy, 4 are currently deployed, 1 is prepping for deployment, 3 are coming out of drydock maintenance, 2 are in drydock, 1 (Ford) is still undergoing certification, and 1 is still technically building (has been launched).
So we can 5 ready for action now, and 3 more 60 - 90 days out.

Wiley is right, Reagan is "Fwd deployed" and in maintenance at Yokosuka.
But she's not in drydock and has her aircraft, so she's probably close if they need her (and she doesn't have very far to go, geographically).
